While the US has troops in their country. While we lose some of our best and brightest. The Iraqis send a soccer team to South Africa to play a game. Its time to bring our people home!!!

I think you mean Iraqi.

And although I agree with you that our troops need to come home...you're saying Iraq shouldn't be allowed to have a football team until they do?

Wait so what if they send a soccer team to qualify for the World Cup. If the tournament was in Iraq I could understand but I don't mind this.

One of the biggest concerns - actually, the biggest concern - when we leave is the very real probability that the country will fracture into three factions. The football team is one of the few things around which the entire country can rally and actually act like a single, unified country. I say, good deal - it can't hurt and will probably help.

But you're right - it's time to leave...

Sorry about the mis-spelling. And not exactlly, I just think that if they can field a team in an international event then they should be able to take care of business at home.

Putting a dozen or so guys on a plane is just a little different than running a very factionized state though.

just curious, do you feel the same way about them sending athletes to compete in the summer olympics?

Yup.

P.S.

I'm basically just very frustrated by what's going on there and in Afganistan. Sometimes I say things that sound a little off even to me.

while i dont like being here in Iraq, I do agree with AR's comment that when we do leave this country, it will probably split into 3 separate groups. The Sunni's, Shia's and the Kurds have been fighting for thousands of years, and will be long after we leave.

I had a interesting conversation with an Interpritor today on a convoy back from Baghdad. I asked him if there was ever going to be an end to the disputes between the 3 groups and he said "No". He is a Kurd from northern Iraq who has lived in the US since 2000. he gave a lot of good information and even opened my eyes about this country.

afghanistan is the same way.
