ISU game - Season tickets only

While I don't agree with ISU doing this, because I haven't the last 2 seasons, I can understand why Pollard is doing this at the same time. It comes down to money and ISU sorely needs money! Without getting some type of revenue going ISU is only going to slip further down the hill as far as facilities and a program as a whole goes.

You can slip below the bottom? Other than the two years where the lack of a kicker cost them trips to the title game mugging, 7-5 has been a great season there. At least Baylor is good in baseball, and once in awhile basketball.

 
No one wants to go to ames, Pollard is an idiot. The only thing Ames has going for it is a nice Old Chicago down off Hwy 30. If it were Colorado, Missouri or anyplace else that can draw a crowd I would buy season tickets and then ebay the rest of them, but with ISU it's way to big of a gamble to do that. Say you bought two season tickets for 700, if you wanted to pay 55 a piece for the Husker game that drops it down to 590, it would be virtually impossible to pull that off ebay for two season tickets minus the Nebraska game. This planned worked for Wake Forest last year because of the fact that Husker fans could buy season tickets and sell the rest, we can't for ISU, obviously no-one wants to buy tickets for ISU. I think Mr. Pollard should learn a lil economics, if he wanted to sell more season tickets why not sell them at 250, atleast then people could think about buying them. Even with that though, it's kinda sad that my Sioux City Musketeers season tickets cost the same as ISU's football tickets!!!!

ya, me and some of my ISU friends planned on going to that game.....apparentally pollard has other thoughts :WTH

You would have to kick out Colorado, Kansas, K-State, Baylor, Okie State, and Texas Tech as well then; they all have stadiums in the 50,000 - 55,000 capacity range.

 
If people did but season tickets to get in they could continue/start what would be a nice tradition of donating tickets to soldiers in the area. I think that would be something really great to be associated with our University.

Hopefully, it wont be long and Iowa and NU will be fed up with this and will turn around and give it to them just as bad. To see a game at NU you practically already need a season ticket, however the ticket price for the away team is $54. That is $54 to see a game at a stadium 2x as big and a team that has won 5 NC. ISU is charging $90 to watch a game in a glorified hog confinement and a team that has never won anything. ISU’s excuse: its all about demand. Well how bout NU turns this on its head and next year figures out the demand to see a game in Lincoln and charges $200 a ticket.

I cant stand how ISU is basically holding other teams fans hostage to subsidize their own program, all because the school drew up plans for their stadium that they cant afford.

If ISU wants to only sell season tickets to this game, that is fine. But I have a serious problem with the price gouging on the 4k allotment NU gets. $90 a ticket is absurd, especially when the same game only in Licoln only charges $60. You cant tell me the game is more in demand when it is played in that so called stadium. It is only a matter of time untill teams start doing this and worse back to them. I cant wait till this backfires and NU fans buy 25,000 season tickets and then ISU is left with a half full stadium the rest of the year.

You're starting to sound like Hawkeye fans. ISU is doing what they have to do to generate revenue to develop a better program. Period. Updates for the stadium, better coach, better product on the field.

Yes, and doing so at the expense of Husker fans. It would seem that ISU would be the "selfish bastards." If they want more revenue they should do the following:

1. Win more games!!! Make there own fan base want to travel. Give people a reason to care enough to attend.

2. Expand the seating above that of a large high school, or maybe just switch to arena ball.

3. Make fans feel more welcome. Do this by sending a message of "Come visit and see what we offer. Watch a great sporting event. Dine and shop at our local businesses. Visit our beautiful campus."

4. Don't make fans feel unwelcome by sending a message of " WE NEED MONEY, and we are going to charge you almost double to make up for our short-comings. Why stay in the comfort of your own home or in your local pub watching the game on a large HDTV, when you can come here for double of what you pay in Lincoln." ISU can try to justify this anyway they want, but it simply spells out to the public just how bad their football program is doing financially (what a great recruiting message).

Also, you say "You're starting to sound like Hawkeye fans." This is interesting. If many are starting to say similar things about a specific subject, it just may be true. Although it is disturbing being put into a category with squawkeye fans.

Your 1st three points are perfect examples for why Pollard is doing this.....all 3 require money.

Being an ISU student for 4 years made me realize HOW GOOD US NEBRASKA FANS HAVE IT. You can't hold the little guys down forever.

This is an excerpt from Pollard's letter back in 2007 explaining why he was doing the "season ticket" thing. Pretty easy to understand...and if you don't like it, stay home and watch it on TV. ISU does rank 6th in the league in TV revenues by the way.

According to data compiled by the Department of Education, Iowa State generated $13.8 million from

its football program in 2005. Among Big 12 schools, only Baylor and Kansas generated less. The average

revenue generated by football programs at Big 12 schools in 2005 was $23.3 million, or nearly $10 million

more than ISU.

 

The simple fact is that we must raise our season ticket base to become more competitive. The question

is, how do you do that? Our staff decided that leveraging one of our most-desired assets – admittance

to the Iowa football game – was something that might help. When Iowa made its last visit to Ames, our

department received 36,000 single-game requests from Cyclone season ticket holders. Filling that many

orders, obviously, limits the available inventory for season sales. We decided that anything which could

deter season ticket sales was to be avoided.

 

What emerged was the plan requiring fans to purchase a football season ticket – and we have multiple

price points – to gain admittance to the match-up with Iowa. The result is that Cyclone fans have stepped

up. It is important to underline that single-game tickets will be sold for the six home games this fall other

than Iowa. There has been incorrect information circulating that ISU won’t sell any single-game tickets for

those fans who want to take in just a game or two. It also isn’t true that we’ll open up single-game sales for

the Iowa game this fall. That is not going to happen.

 

The cold, hard reality is that we cannot survive fi nancially and compete with our peers by selling a small

number of season tickets and trying to live off one huge crowd every two years. One thing is certain; that

formula has not worked in the past.

 

And yet, to meet the wishes of Cyclone Nation (providing things you’ve asked for like coaching changes,

a scoreboard with the score on it, new seats in Hilton, more restrooms, parking spaces and concessions),

it takes money. Football season ticket sales are where it starts. To become more competitive and meet the

visions that you have shared with me for this department, we need to upgrade our financial base

I hope you entertain seriously the opportunity to join us for seven outstanding home football games this

fall and one of Iowa State’s top traditions, tailgating. Thanks for your loyal support and Go Cyclones!
