ISU game...tough to determine much

3 umpire/ref/backjudge reviews and then a TV timeout then a TV review DAMN yes DAMN

then either I passed out or they never said a thing about the review?????? ok I passed out NOT
Then a replay of some old episodes of Suddenly Susan that one of the refs had on his ipod.

If the Huskers wanna play bend, don't break defense, I'd really love to see them using a fair amount of 3-4. Potter, Suh, Turner up front, Steve, Corey, Bo, Lance in back. If you've got playmaking LBs, I say use 'em.
I recommend a 4-3 with a rover. I mentioned before but this will be best for our defense since our DB's so far are playing well. Here is another crude example.(see below)...This keeps all our athleticism on the field allows Ruud to cover TE and backs on pass plays and Ruud need to only be concerned with outside contain...if we only use 3 d-lineman then 2 lb's play over (close to the line) and that isn't going to help stop the run inside or off tackle. I have Octavien and Dillard playing inside LB's and McKeon coming in to give rest every 3 series to Dillard and on obvious passing plays bring in another DB to play safety and bring Dillard out. Move to a base 4-3 with Culbert, Ruud and Octavien as the LB. Sub whenever rest is needed.

Considering Northern Iowa, Toledo, Kent, etc. don't exactly have juggernaut defenses; I'm still extremely worried about our team. We did give up more yards than any of those D1 wannabees on again our home turf in our own back yard. This is a trend that is just not good. I'm just glad we don't play Notre Dame. We don't need ND's offense thinking they're God just like everyone else does after they play us!

Overall, I think today was a step, not a leap, forward. The defense did play with more urgency and did create momentum-changing turnovers. As a unit, they still have a long ways to go, but hopefully, today will give them more confidence heading into the Mizzou game. Offensively, I was again disappointed with the lack of a consistent running game. NU had opportunities to put the game away in the 4th quarter, but could not sustain a drive to put the final nail in the coffin. Plus, the offense cannot continue to turnover the ball like it did today for the rest of the season. NU also needs to cut down on the number of mental mistakes that are being made. Penalties that revive drives for the opposing team's offense are killer to a defense that is struggling to find an identity. Plus, Keller's decision to not throw the ball away during the last seconds of the first half cost at least 3 points.

Bottom line: NU will have to finally put all three phases together next week in order to win at Mizzou. The offense, defense and special teams cannot make the critical mistakes that have plagued the team this season. The defense will have to create turnovers, as we cannot expect them to stop Mizzou's potent offense. I hope and pray that Coz will put together a better plan than he did last time we went to Columbia. Offensively, NU will have to run the ball effectively in order to control the time of possession, and we will have to score at least 31 points to win the game. Also, we desperately need the team to heal this

week...lots of injuries to key players.

After watching Colorado and Kansas State win "signature" games today, I am sick and tired of hearing about us not winning a big game. It's high time for NU to go to Columbia and come away victorious. This is a crucial game, as after watching the Big 12 today, there will not be an "easy" game from here on out. We could finish anywhere from 1st to 4th in the Big 12 North. There is no more time left to be "mediocre".

Go Big Red!!!

While I'd love to see NU win next week and I think we can, I don't think it will be a signature win. I'm not even sure if Mizzou even if they beat us next week is the top team in the Big 12 North. I think CU's win was a fluke and they'd lose the next 10 out of 10 against OU. However, KState is the real deal. Freeman is a baller, he's damn good. Mizzou even with a win should not be considered a signature win.

I agree with you, I Bleed Red. There were positives and there were negatives today. We'll find out more about this team against Missouri.

The important thing is we collected the win, and the Blackshirts have got to have a huge confidence and momentum boost from the way they played today.

I'm not worried about our offense. Wacky game, but we rolled to victory after overcoming some early odds, and I think this team is ready to hit the Big 12 like lightning. It's all I could have wanted, this kind of momentum and confident spirit to carry into Missouri, so I'm satisfied this week.

Well if you watch sport center or any ESPN college football coverage you would never know that Nebraska even played. <_<

Good to get the W today but we still lack consistency on both sides of the ball.

Defense: Props to Grix and Ruud for the gamechanging INT's (we need guys to step up and be playmakers so gameballs for them). McKeon, Suh, and Potter seemed to be in on a lot of plays (at least got mentioned a lot on the web broadcast). McKeon seemed to have a really good game so that is great to hear. Bowman seemed to be getting torched a bit which surprised me. Agree with some of the other comments that this was ISU at home and Mizzou and other opponents are going to be much better so we have lots of work to do.

Offense: Nice halfback pass from Lucky and pretty good game from him other than the fumble. Felt we still could have run it more on ISU and controlled this game much better. Nice TD's by Lawson. Keller was solid. Purify does not seem to be involved as much as I think he should be in the offense. Way too many drops from WR's...on the broadcast it seems like there is a dropped pass almost every series...this has got to stop. I thought we caught the ball well against USC but most other games we have been very average and inconsistent.

Overall: Concerned we are a middle of the pack team in the Big 12 this year. We are turning the ball over too much. Being on the west coast I see a lot of Pac-10 games. USC is always on and our defense looked to be the worst I have seen against them. Washington tonight played them much better than we did but the score was close due to a lot of USC penalties and some uncharacteristic USC turnovers. I see Cal, Oregon, Arizona St., and UCLA out here as well...the types of offenses they have, all those teams would beat us as well. Now the Big 12 North looks to be better than originally thought...so we have our work cut out for us. I am not expecting a win at Mizzou but I hope I am proven wrong!

That would work well, especially since Ruud seems to have developed great hands. One thing about the 3-4 is that it would hopefully improve the LBs ability to pick up and adjust to fakes which seems to bea problem for them. Of course in the 3-4 you'd need the SS to come up on inside runs. That could be a job for Culbert, maybe.

We'll find out in 6 days. On national television. For Nebraska, it is put up or shut up. The ENTIRE team needs to show up in Columbia. No breakdowns, no errors...time to put together a great, complete game.

You know what?

NU won, and if they continue to do that, then they are doing a lot more than most. So far, they have lost to the team they were supposed to, and if they beat Texas then man oh man this year opens up big time.

That's because the Extreme Sports and Poker Network was too busy sucking off Herbstreit to worry about anything else.
