ISU...

Had to figure heads were going to roll after getting smoked by KU at da Obie Trice. I figured Cotton was gone, but wasn't so sure that Mccartney would get booted.

McCarney took over a moribund ISU program following a winless 1994 season and eventually led it to five bowl games, one more than previous Cyclone teams had been to in 100+ previous years of intercollegiate football combined.
Without a doubt he gets offers from other schools...MAC, possible lower BCS school. but he could easily get a high profile cordinator posistion...

They talk about him joining Barry Alvarez at Miami if he gets the AD/head coach job there. Yeah, Mac will have no problem getting a job. Is Barney Cotton, the general of the "real" big red going to follow him?

I don't know. With him officially resigning but staying on to finish the season, ISU is able to go out and look for another HC before recruiting really gets hot and heavy and maybe even hiring someone before the season is out (Mich St is doing something very similar). Plus it gives them a chance to go after some of the big name Coordinators and past coaches who may be looking for a new job.

Everyone knew that at the end of year McCarney was most likely going to be gone anyways. He's a decent coach, but not a great coach. He has brought this team from mediocre to decent (minus this year) and they need someone to take them to that next level......
