It all starts with pass rush, Callahan says

I didnt say blitz every play! We need to attack. Last year the defense sat back and made sure no one got behind them, but then we gave up little 7 yard dumps every play. We need to attack the football wherever it goes, and make a play to stop it dead, rather than just "preventing the big one". We need a good push and some outside heat from the line. A disguised linebacker blitz once in a while would help. And we need to go back to a zone, giving safeties a chance to make a play on a pass.

Like I said before, the only way a blitz works is if there are lanes to blitz through. If the front 3-4 can't create the lanes, the blitz will be picked up ever time and thus be useless.

People act like blitzing is some magical thing that if defenses would just do it more, they would be awesome. :dumdum
