+1.Spartan fan since 1976 here. First post here. [Love Nebraska in the Big 10. Raises our game and prestige. Forces us to be better. Your fans are great and classy. MSU fans have much to learn from you (they are quick to boast, quick to complain, quick to make excuses, are poor sports too often, do not show respect for opponents but rather contempt. etc.)
Anyhow, let's not let facts get in the way of a good story, right?
Facts:
Since beginning of BCS era:
Big 10 overall bowl record: 41-48
ACC: 56-52
Big 12: 48-50
Big East: 30-28
Pac 10: 35-36
SEC: 61-44
Yes, the Big 10 had a terrible New Year's Day in 2011, going 0-5. Each game had a different story. What we can learn:
-The SEC is the best football conference.
-The Big Ten, while slightly worse than the other conferences, is not terrible. The Big Ten up until this year has had the longest layoff between the last game and the bowls. The SEC has had at least one additional week of games counting the conference champtionship. The long layoff makes a difference.
-The Big Ten's seeming bowl problems are mostly the faults of a few teams: Minnesota 3-6, Purdue 3-6, Michigan State 2-5, and Northwestern 0-6. The other teams have fared much better. MSU's bowl problems have been mostly coaching in my opinion. Last year's Alabama debacle was a perfect example. We had no imagination on how to attack a physically superior team (see BYU in the 80s and 90s for a good way to win with inferior talent.) We were stubborn enough to try and run power I-formation football at a giant brick wall. Stupid.

Yes Wilson was paid by UW - its called a scholarshipYes, the SEC cheats more than any other conference and Russell Wilson was payed by UW to play for the Badgers, oh the world you in which you live.

I thought that rule was pretty black and white. I'm not sure what's that "fishy" about a rule laid out by the NCAA. Right or wrong, it's not like they just made it up on the spot.Yes, the SEC cheats more than any other conference and Russell Wilson was payed by UW to play for the Badgers, oh the world in which you live.
you mean the world where 2+2=4?
Think about it: the SEC goes from perennial suckfest to five titles in a row? nick saban goes from big 10 bottom feeder to hall of famer through some divine miracle?
Auburn and Ole Miss with proven $180,000+ deals with Cam and his daddy and "no improprieties found?"
Russel Wilson, a fifth year senior from va, transfers from ncstate to a perennial also-ran in BFE for no particular reason? And btw, doesn't even lose a year of eligiblity either.
something smells fishy, and it ain't just milwaukee.
The announcers were talking today, and I got to thinking about us being a big 10 team and no longer playing any Big 12 teams, and I think I realized why Big 10 teams typically blow chunks in bowl games.
We knew there'd be a transition period while getting used to the Big 10. The announcers explained this, mentioning how our D had to agree to the downhill style of most Big 10 offenses, as opposed to the lateral movement of a lot of Big 12 offenses.
I fully realized we would no longer play Big 12 teams that use such spread variations and were therefore more likely to see more power, north and south stuff in the Big 10 (with obvious exceptions abounding... Michigan, Northwestern, etc.).
So, do Big 10 teams suck against SEC and other speedy teams because they're not used to the lateral attacks of spread teams who have speedier players, or is there some other reason? It seems like Big 10 teams religious come out and get rolled generally come bowl season, with the top teams perhaps faring OK (OSU in the Sugar Bowl last year).
Um actually with Wilson, a player who graduated from an FBS school can transfer to another FBS school and enroll into the graduate program and not have to sit out a year. See the Paulus situation a couple years ago. It's an NCAA rule, not Wisconsin cheating, he would be playing this year no matter where he went.Yes, the SEC cheats more than any other conference and Russell Wilson was payed by UW to play for the Badgers, oh the world in which you live.

Considering he chose between going to Wisconsin and Auburn (who already is known to pay players)... it doesn't take a genius to figure out what that one was all about.Exactly... it's a crappy loophole, but he could have gone anywhere he wanted. so why wisconsin? just because ham-loaf face is such a nice guy? because wisconsin has put so many QBs in the NFL? or because they wrote the biggest check?
Occam's Razor: All things being equal, the simplest answer is usually the correct one.
