I've done an excellent job in every area

What, like you expect someone to say that they've done a horrible job and deserve to be fired? C'mon. Would you say something like that if you job was in jeopardy? It doesn't matter if it's true or not.

What some of you expect is just beyond me.
He could put some of the blame onto his decisions during the game and say something like "I've got to prove to you fans that I can win the next four games and that our coaching staff will pull together and we'll pratice more and we'll get more motivated. We've recognize some of our weeknesses and we need to work more on those and we haven't played to our potential." Something like this is better than saying something that is obviously outrageous. But that's just me.
The fact of the matter is that the guy can't say anything right with some people. If it's not one thing it's the other.

Callahan(tuesday conf)

"I've done an excellent job in every area. It's hard for the media to know, but what we've done off the field, and what we've done on the field. I think it's well-documented."

I really think that he knows he's gone and he's just playing a game. The game is "how much can I get away with?"

Seriously. I can't believe he really believes that... or can he? I've lost all respect for the man.

well Bill, most people's accomplishments speak for their effort and effectiveness, in any profession.

i see little to celebrate here. good bye.

other than recruiting, what else could you possibly commend the man on concerning his effectiveness as a coach, Dave?

But the discussion is not so much about BC's performance which is more objectively debatable, but about what he says and doesn't say which is subjective opinion.

His responses remind me of this....

I don't mean to pile on but I had this idea so I thought I'd throw it together :)

We as Nebraska fans witnessed excellence for the better part of 40 straight years. We know excellence. This is far from excellence.

Nebraska fans would respect him a little bit if he said "I'm trying my best, but it's not good enough. I'm sorry." A REAL MAN admits when he is wrong, so he can be forgiven. Callahan is just being typical Callahan, he is throwing everyone else under the bus. He is stubborn and will not change, as it would be an admission of fault.

He has excelled at chaning our culture (from winning and pride to losing and embarassement) and has excelled at setting most of the worst records in the history of our program.

While that's a good thing, it's also part of the problem IMO. Husker fans were spoiled by the "excellence". Recent husker history has certainly brought "the greatest fans in college football" down a notch or four and I think we are starting to see the real character of the typical husker fan. One who leaves early, boos, etc etc.

Are you saying that as paying customers, followers, and fans, we don't have the right to voice our concerns? Should we just let this ship sink without trying to keep it afloat?

BTW, the same could be said about passionate fans of any team.

No, that's not what I am saying.

NU fans like to pride themselves on relentless support of the team. Also, even supporting the other team. If that's true, to me there is no excuse for booing, yelling at players to take their N's off their hats, etc, etc. How is that supporting the team when then need it? On the field!

You can complain, yell, do what ever you want on messageboards etc. But IMO when you go to the game, you're one job is to support the team. Period.

If you want to look at is as you are a paying customer and you are dissatisfied with the product (which I think is a horrible way to look at it), then one would think they would stop buying the product.

Yes, the same could be said about the fans of any team but I thought NU fans were supposed to be different? No?

This is the stupidest thing I've ever read. The boos have nothing to do with losing. And they have nothing to do with getting blown out. They have to do with players who play like they don't give a sh#t and a coaching staff that coaches like this is little league. Yeah, stay in the 4-3 both halves even if it's not working. Keep McKlown in even if he tries to arm tackle Lane for the fifteenth time. Nevermind Keller thinks a$$ cheeks can catch balls––Ganz probably doesn't want to play anyway.

Wake up. Demanding excellence from excellent talent in an excellent program has nothing to do with being spoiled. And in case you don't read anything but your own posts, the former players have had it, too.

I don't support a team that quits, and I don't support a staff that fails to uphold Nebraska's tradition. Oh yeah, I know, I'm a horrible fan, shouldn't call myself a Husker, wah wah wah, but at the end of the day Nebraska stands for a lot more than winning and losing, and what it stands for these kids, by and large, ain't got.

X

So you'd agree that Husker fans are no different than any other "passionate" fan? Surely what you said could apply to the FSU's of the word. That's the point I'm driving at.

even though many fans are upset, it is time to stop blaming the fans for the fall of the team. this set of coaches is not getting the most from the players. you can see it and hear it in the kids play and actions off the field. the coaches have no confidence in themselves either, switching up who calls the plays, cally getting involved with defensive calls, etc. these guys could not be more lost and the kids have no confidence in their coaches.

how can we possibly consider keeping these guys when they just keep trying new gimmicks each week?

no one ever talks about stressing fundamentals. some coaches are against starting freshman, just on principal alone. this is a dysfunctional group of coaches who can't seem to make any steady progress with our players, they stay the same or play worse than the week before. don't give me the crap about parity either, this team has no identity and no leadership either. coaching develops these attributes. we need some coaches, badly.

I don't think anyone's blaming the fans for the team's troubles... At least I haven't seen that here.

Dave, I'm curious. Is part of your job as moderator STICKING UP FOR HIM????? For crying out loud, he said he was doing an excellent job and he's NOWHERE NEAR THE GUY HE REPLACED!!!!!!!! As I said, I'm just curious.
