I don't post often on hear but I noticed something that bothered me. I didn't get to watch most of the game (it was the lady's birthday) so I only got bits and pieces of what my friend was messaging. He told me about Cotton's penalties and it was confirmed (overwhelmingly) by the folks on this board. I decided this morning with my free time to finally sit and watch the game. I gotta say, besides the penalties, Cotton played better than any other lineman.

He absolutely mauls linebackers in space. He and Lewis form a wall on pass protection. He's definately the best pulling lineman we have, and you could make an argument that he's the best overall lineman we have.

I'm only mentioning this because he was getting A LOT of hate on here. He was screwing up badly at the end, but without him, we might not have been in that position anyways.

Cotton will also be a divisive figure, just because of his last name. The tripping penalty was a bad and unnecessary penalty, which cost NU a TD. The illegal man downfield late in the 4th happens quite a bit when the QB is scrambling around. It's tough to get too upset with him on that.

Overall, I think Cotton is the best o-lineman on the team, so he might get some leeway with penalties from the coaches, as long as it's not a regular occurrence each game.

Which is the dumbest friggen thing in the world.

Guy is a beast. Unsure, even now, if the trip was on purpose. Didn't re-watch the game, but looked like to could have been incidental IMO.

He an Lewis play angry which is exactly what this team needs.

The Cotton boys have gotten grief, (BS to do so IMO) but all have played very well and deserved the schollies.

The only reason I have a problem with the tripping is that he got caught and cost us a TD. Linemen do this all the time, several times a game. He was just unlucky on this play. He is in fact a very good lineman and I'm glad he's on the team.

Honestly, this is all great to hear. In the game thread I saw a few people saying "TAKE HIM OUT" and things of that nature. I'm happy to see people recognize he's not really apart of our offensive struggles.

I agree it's dumb. This message board I used to frequent hated and still do hate all things Cotton.

I know people who are the same way. Those tend to be the people I refuse to talk about Husker football with anymore.

The first penalty in McNesse stinker (cost NU a TD) was marginal call IMO.
From what I could tell, it was the right call. But, what do I know, I am not a college referee. The bad part about that play was that Cotton was behind the play, and "didn't need" to do it. I know he is aggressive, and his job is to keep the back side of the play clean, but the play was going to the other side.

I am not complaining about Cotton's play. I think 99% of his detractors are due to his last name, and that's a shame.

Was it an Aggie board?

Cotton can still improve like any other player, but for the most part he is a good lineman.

I said F*ck-F*ck-F*ck because the play was called back, I did not hold it against Cotton, he is a good lineman. Him and Lewis make a great pair on the left side.

Enjoy the game. Don't read the Game Thread.
Truer words have never been typed here.
There was a former Husker message board site that would host chat rooms during games. Man, that was awful to be in during the games. If there was anything that went wrong, the whole thing would be up in flames. It was awful.
