James Franklin to PSU

OH HSKR FAN

I think he is either going to flop or be quite successful, IMO. Did a good job as you can do at Vanderbilt. However he had a rape scandal while there. Not sure I would want that dark cloud hanging over him considering the recent history at State College.

Sam McKewon:

If Penn State gets out of his way. Franklin's hardcore. It's gonna be his way, and it's gonna be a full throttle. Penn State has to be cool being the Big Ten program that ruffles some feathers. Because Franklin's not gonna go kiss Hoke and Urban's ring.

With all due respect to Sam McKewon, is he suggesting that there are coaches in the B1G that do kiss these rings? And if so, who might he be referring to?

Exactly. I can't think of a single coach that just bows down to Ohio State or Michigan. And if they do, they shouldn't be coaching.

It feels like Gary Andersen kind of does, at least to Urban Meyer, I was slightly annoyed by that but they did coach together...

Franklin to PSU is interesting, don't know what to think about it. He did well at Vanderbilt and they have a challenging situation given their high academic standards and stiff conference competition - even with the East being down - and he did quite well. Penn State is challenging in its own ways but he has connections to the area and will benefit from O'Brien leaving the way he did so he'll be able to afford to lose some games.

How I see it:

UCF - Dublin Ireland Toss

Akron Win

@ Rutgers Toss

UMass Win

Northwestern Toss

@ Michigan Loss

OSU Loss

Maryland Win

@ Indiana Win

Temple Win

@ Illinois Win

MSU Loss

9-3 at best, 6-6 at worst.

I am sure that Franklin is a pretty good coach and maybe he will do well at a more high profile school but he has only beaten 3 FBS schools that finished the year with an above .500 record while coach at Vanderbilt.

I guess I just imagined Penn State going for someone a little better.

I am sure they did aim high but the reality of the situation has made them change their trajectory. Just look at Texas, they were aiming for Saban but they landed Strong.

Pretty sure that's a figure of speech. In other words he isn't going to look at himself or his team as underdogs to either of those coaches and their teams regardless of how well known they may be. It's an attitude he carries himself and instills in his team. I think it's an amazing hire for PSU.

Has this been reported as a done deal?

Not sure how PSU players will react to this but weren’t there a few coaches that remained at PSU?

If so, anyone qualified or on the bubble that could have some HC potential?

As for kissing Urban's ring and to even say Hokes name along side of Urban is like comparing

Kate Upton................ to................ Tilda Swinton

and I do not think there are any coaches in the B1G that looks to be kissing Urbans ring!

But it was an SEC school so that's like beating any team not named Alabama.

That doesn't change my response. Any coach that doesn't think they can beat Ohio State or Michigan, shouldn't be coaching.

I see what you did there.

I agree with Coqui. Michigan and Hoke have done nothing to make anyone fear them and I will reserve comment on how good Meyer is until after next year.

Urban has two undefeated regular seasons. Too bad his only shot at a post season leaves him 0-2. Makes you wonder about some of his accolades.
