Jay, Shawn, and Solich

Ted Gilmore. Again. Good coach, but his ideas of a WR are far from what we're doing with ours. Like the situation of what we're now doing with our quarterbacks is night and day to what Watson's use of a quarterback is. Also, no matter what the scheme was, Gilmore's receivers disgustedly under performed in every aspect after the loss of Peterson and Swift, and the constant Niles Paul gaffes were just too much for him to be retained.

Fielding Yost - was 7-1 but lost 2 (or 3) of the last 3 games to end up 8-3 (or 7-4). Including a 24 point loss to the mighty Kansas City Medics

Ended up at some university north of Ohio with a record there of 165-29-10

Dana X Bible also got away to some little burnt orange college down San Antonio way.

If there's any merit what so ever to the rumors of both Solich and Bohl's departure, I highly doubt either moves up any ladders especially after the Bobby Petrino fiasco. Solich doesn't have much of a shot anyway because of his age. Part of me just wishes TO would have stepped into the AD job the moment he retired from coaching because things would probably look considerably different than they do today.
Oh boy, that's the truth. We could have saved ourselves a lot of pain.......

Lastly, Frank is a great coach. And as Husker fans most of us at least respect the guy. I respect him for sure and I wasn't one who was calling for his head back in 2003. I thought he was safe after the CU win and was shocked to see a move. Still, in the here and now, Frank is doing OK in the MAC. He might win the title, but I don't see the Bobcats as being a BCS buster. They barely beat UMass.
People can yell at me all they want for saying this, but if we hadn't made the stupid decision to fire Solich after the man was just beginning to make major changes to his offensive and defensive coaching staff, I think you would have seen a perenial top-20 Husker squad at least since then. We may not have gotten the flashy 5-star Harrison Becks of the world, but with Bo at D-coordinator and Marvin Sanders, as well as what looked like what was an evolution to more passing in the traditional Solich run-option offense, we would have looked much more like Kansas State in their heyday.

I think yours would be a very popular opinion. I'd respectfully disagree, because, barring a major recruiting turnaround, the program would have been set back for a long time.

For all of Callahan's failures, they were largely self-contained in his four-year tenure here. He put Nebraska back on the recruiting map and pushed the envelope for what Nebraska could accomplish in recruiting, and restocked the cupboards that would otherwise have been mighty barren. That was an important step along the way...

...but if we want a perennial Top 20 squad, we need "the guy" at HC, the guy who both is an outstanding manager for the team and continues pushing the recruiting envelope to ensure continued, long-term success. Without that we're going nowhere.
