Joe Dailey's play

Red November

Special Teams Player
Joe Daily actually makes Jamaal Lord look good. He is very inaccurate but when he does hit his receivers, they drop the ball or lose it after being hit. One or the other, it doesnt matter, the passing offense isnt getting it done!!

But a W's a W, I'll take it....The Blackshirts looked really tough!

I agree. The wind was probably a factor, but I would buy that more if he had been dead on in every other game. Our receivers have to be more agressive on routes and actually try to catch a ball that might not be perfectly thrown. It's a two way street in that respect.

At this point, it has nothing to do with the WCO. You have to be able to atleast throw the ball and catch the ball. No matter what offense. Don't tell me you didn't with the option, cause we did throw the ball in the option game.

Is there a reason why the coaching staff didn't try more misdirection with Dailey? A play action pass? A bootleg pass? A rollout pass? I can't understand why we don't try the short crossing routes with the receivers we have. It seems to me that Dailey could at least hit those types of passes with a better percentage than the stuff we've been doing.

I guess it's either the run or nothing from here on out....

He doesn't seem comfortable at all. If we haven't gone to a backup or someeldse by now, it isn't going to happen. Go Joe Go

That would be tweaking the offense and Callahan isn't going to do that. Same reason Callahn won't run the option even once a game even though it would mean big yards. He's too freakin' arrogant. So we're stuck doing the same lame running plays that fit into his WCO formations. It's a good thing Ross is such a stud.

I can't believe we only has 250 yards of total offense. If we would have just lined up and punched them in the mouth I bet we would have had 500. But now that I've gotten that out of my system, it was a W like you guys said. So that's good. We'll see if they can keep rolling.

I see the counter bootleg on most plays...I know the Defense would stay home alot but Dailey could get to the corner alot...I think that BC is very scared of Losing Dailey to an injury...I would like to see us use our QB more like K-state does.......I think that that would free up the recievers down field and get Dailey into a rythym ....3 and out alot of the time hurts our defense as well...

the Special teams seem to be gellin....finally....we got a decent punter and coverage was decent.....this will be Key if we want to beat ISU and CU.....

This has been discussed at length, but in Callahans position you can't just revert to the old offense when you have been teaching your offense all year. How can you not stay the course? It's not a matter of being arrogant, it's a matter of having a offensive scheme you have developed your entire life and being hired to bring it here. It would be an insult to any coach for an AD to say "Yea, come coach here but you HAVE to run the offense, or defense, this way." Most, if not every coach would tell you to go to hell. Why? Because that's a coaches job. To run the team as he was hired to. Right now, the offense is as simple as it gets. Period. And we still can't execute. Like I said in another thread, at this point it seems its not even about the WCO. It's about the ability to throw and catch the damn ball!

We have run the ball considerably more in the last few games than we have all year. We have cut out much of the shifting and misdirection in the offense. To say that Callahan hasn't tried to change the offense in an effort to help the players grasp it is simply not true.

This is also simply a matter of laying some kind of foudation for the future, IMO. Say you don't implement the WCO right away. Assuming that Callahan would have still taken the job in that situation, when do you start? When every player is a Callahan & Co. recruit? That's a good 5 years away! Jumping in a cold pool is always better than pu&&y-footing your way in IMO.

Couldn't agree more. It seems most of the pass plays are three step drops or quick reads. They don't do the motion like they were early. They ran playaction and Dailey threw crappy balls. The wind was pitiful yesterday but his throws were terrible. I don't know if running the option is a good idea right now either. Did you see the way Dailey scrambles? He looks scared. IMO. We aren't throwing the ball as much now so when we do they just need to be completed.

What's going to happen next year when Beck is brought in?? You gotta think that Beck is being brought in here to play. I would rather have him in their and struggle than have Dailey in their struggling. I imagine the way it is going, there are going to be close to 10 freshman seeing action next year. Let them get their lumps and game experience early during the non conference schedule. Never waste time. I bet Beck gets a playbook the day he signs his LOI. He may not practice til fall, but it won't matter. BC is dying to show what he can do with his guys. I think there are freshman seeing time this year to show those incoming players that NU is not afraid to use the best player available, regardless of age.

That's a very good point - the possibility of losing Dailey to an injury. There simply isn't a backup available at this time. Putting Dailey out there in an option could be an invitation for disaster if he's hurt.

The way they have him running this year you wouldn't want him to run the option. Runs like a scared pup. Last year he actually ran pretty good. I think smith for mizzou is about the same way now. As a freshman he was a heck of a runner now he is so set on passing that he has their mentality and runs like a chicken poop.

Benard, I actually agree with you. It seems as if in the midst of learning the West Coast Offense, Dailey forgot how to run with the ball. In the Utah State game last year, he put a couple jukes on that were pretty incredible on a run he had. Granted, it was Utah State, but he looked confident running. I just wish the kid could remember that.

Well that was last year. Our coaches encouraged the quarterbacks to run last year. This year is different. We don't have a backup capable of coming in if Dailey gets hurt. The option is not part of our offense anymore, no matter how much some of you want it to be. Callahan wants Dailey to stay in the pocket and make his progressions. It is all part of learning the new offense. Callahan would be stupid to give Dailey the authority to run out of the pocket everytime that he gets pressure. Dailey would never learn to read his progressions, he would just look at the primary reciever and then take off running. We would never execute the WCO if he did that.

Did hell freeze over? I think I just crapped my pants.
