Joe Ganz passing stats, hard to believe

Sure would have liked seeing Ganz for one more year, with Roy Helu behind him and a Pelini defense that didn't require the offense to dig the team out of a 62 point hole.

Look at the games we barely lost in 2009, and tell me having Joe Ganz instead of Zac Lee doesn't put the Huskers at 12 - 1, in the thick of the BCS and singing the praises of Shawn Watson.

Zac Lee wasn't really the problem if you ask me. It was our scrap job of an offensive line and receivers. Zac sucked it up at times, but he was hurt and was still able to get the ball around at a mediocre level; having Joe would have helped, but we had some HUGE problems that weren't named Zac Lee that Joe Ganz couldn't have fixed.

I completely disagree with this. I think if we have Ganz on our team in 09, we're going to the national championship game. Zac Lee is a nice guy, but he was a horrid QB.

He was pretty darn impressive when healthy; who knows how good of a quarterback he actually would have been. If we have Ganz in '09, who does he throw to, since none of our receivers could ever seem to get open? How many costly sacks does he have, since he had a tendency to take bad sacks, and our offensive line was the worst it's been in years.

Yeah, against those three SunBelt teams. He tore them up.

Ganz was a great QB to have. He was far from perfect, but a really gritty player. It's a shame he didn't get an opportunity earlier.

Those were good numbers for Joe in 2008 but it sure didn't translate to very much for the Huskers.

9-4 overall, 5-3 in conference.

Were never ranked the whole year.

Losses to Mizzou, TT, OU, & Va Tech

Squeeker wins against powerhouses Baylor, KU, CU, & Clemson.

I'll take a power running game over that anyday and twice on Saturdays.

Yeah, but if Taylor Martinez actually possessed the same game management skills, moxie, and passing fundamentals as Joe Ganz, NU would be undefeated right now and Taylor Martinez would be a legit Heisman frontrunner.

Love Ganz. Before his senior season he had trouble staying focused the entire game and it led to some poor decisions. His senior year it all clicked.

If Ganz does anything as a coach it should be to work with Martinez on that and his game will improve tenfold.

Count me in the camp that doesn't find it a shame; I think Joe got his shot when he deserved it. He wasn't a better quarterback than Zac Taylor and he wasn't a better quarterback than Sam Keller at the time that they were starting.

You can talk about all the problems the Nebraska offense had in 2009, but look at the games they narrowly lost (ignoring the OU shellacking) and tell me the upgrade from Zac Lee to Joe Ganz doesn't win you those games.

I don't think Ganz was unfairly sidelined, just that it was a shame he didn't have one more year to start.

Joe Ganz was a great Husker. I loved his fire, his toughness, and his grit. He gave it his all and played, really, above his talent level --- based on sheer heart. He was fun to watch and certainly is a Husker to be thankful for --- he passed quite well, ran with some attitude, and played with some real moxie. And really... as was pointed out, he had some personal success on fairly weak teams.

These are the kind of kids you like seeing donning the red "N" on their helmets.

Agree it was Bo very first year and every team we lost to was in the Top 15 atleast when we played them, I think VTech was 14th or so and then everybody else was in the top 5. TTech was #5 and we almost beat them at there house in OT. Baylor was a "squeaker" win by 12 and it was RGIII freshman year. KU was coming off a 12-1 season and was LOADED on offense, Ressing,Meier, Briscoe and that fast RB.... oh by the way that same team beat us 76-39 the year before.

I believe having Ganz on sidelines this year has helped Martinez.

Virginia Tech was unranked and Texas Tech was 7th, just for the record. That Kansas team was good but not anywhere close to great, they went 8-5 (obviously not the same team as 2007).

I have always been a huge Joe Ganz fan. He was part of and largely responsible for the turnaround after the Callahan debacle when Pelini took over in 2008 and behind Ganz we ended up ranked in the top 20 in passing offense, scoring offense and total offense. Joe was money and a great Husker.

I wish he had one more year to start as well.
