LINCOLN - Nebraska coach Bill Callahan hired one of his former football players Tuesday to fill the vacancy on the Huskers' coaching staff.
Joe Rudolph was named NU's tight ends coach. Rudolph comes to the Huskers from Ohio State, where he was part of the Buckeyes' strength and conditioning.
Rudolph, 34, played offensive line for Wisconsin in the early 1990s when Callahan was the Badgers' offensive line coach. He also played briefly in the National Football League.
Also on Tuesday, Callahan announced that assistant coach Ted Gilmore would be adding the role of recruiting coordinator. Gilmore replaces Shawn Watson, who recently was promoted to offensive coordinator.
Rudolph fills the spot previously held by Jay Norvell, who left NU in January to become offensive coordinator at UCLA.
