John Blake, 'Black Santa'

NUance

Assistant Coach

Critics refer to John Blake as 'Black Santa' for his alleged gifts on the recruiting trail.
John Blake is on a serious roll. Gary Gibbs, Barry Switzer, Jackie Sherrill and Bill Callahan. All were head coaches -- key phrase here is "were" -- and Blake was an assistant coach under all four. All of them are no longer involved in college football. Perhaps it's a stretch to put all the blame on Blake. Hey, maybe it's just a coincidence.

But North Carolina coach Butch Davis certainly should have taken Blake's track record into consideration before hiring him in 2007. Come to think of it, he did. Davis figured the reward was worth the risk and it's a gamble that might eventually cost Davis his job. LINK
I prefer to think of John Blake as the ex-OU head coach, not the ex-NU D-line coach.

Yeah, I'm glad he left before he caused problems for NU. Blake probably isn't a bad guy. He just bends the rules. I was looking at Blake's wiki--Did you know he played nose guard for OU? At about the same time as Dave Rimmington was our center.

I didnt know that. Im sure he is a good coach but after all the negativity that surrounds him and the ncaa coming down with a force lately, im just relieved he aint here.

When I read Remington's name I bust out the Koolaid, the guy was great.

Killer position coach, though. Remember how awesome our defensive line was in 2006?
I can't tell if you're being sarcastic. We did had a decent D-line in 2006. Not great, but at least is wasn't terrible. We gave up about half as many yards rushing per game in 2006 than we did in 2007. Seriously, about half.
