For those who thought Stanton was the man, was in the mix, was going to play

You were wrong

Very evident by his lack of mention this spring and his poor play in spring game

Lack of accuracy is not easy to fix

Did you know he was a bust from the beginning or what

I said here several times that he had accuracy issues, which are the most difficult to fix

I also said since he didn't get in at the Spring game until very late and when he did he looked bad meant he wouldn't be playing QB here at NU

Several disagreed with that and said all it was going to take was some QB whispering- that his Elite 11 pedigree proved he deserved a shot etc

I countered that Harrison Becks QB camp ratings didn't mean much either and that JS wouldn't be taking any QB snaps at NU

Long term- Riley will not value or chase down QBs who run well and don't have consistently accurate arms

From what I saw he was definitely behind TA, Darlington and Broekemeier. Broekemeier is a much better QB than most are giving credit, he's no Matt Turman, kid can play.

Im not impressed with Bush (his tilt on the ball is awkward) or Fyfe, but even at that, being 4th best and not making the 105- he was done a long time ago.

I believe I predicted this many moons ago.

Stanton was told he wouldn't be on the Fall 105, but would have been able to join after school started and keep his scholarship. How does this work?

I guess the 105 is a fall camp limit and which players make the cut is a total coaches decision, but Stanton could have eventually stayed on the roster anyway by not pursuing a transfer?

Like everyone else, I wish him well and appreciate him coming to Lincoln. Not too long ago he was battling Fyfe for 2nd duty. With new staff here, he doesn't make the fall practice squad & can only join the team when school starts? I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around that... Even more so since he showed good passing skills at the Elite 11. I can only guess that there was a mental block that got in the way of his success and effectiveness at NU. Kind of like Joel Stave at Wisconsin getting the yips and throwing one hoppers all of a sudden - from overthinking. I don't know. Stanton had skills to pass and talent to run. Good kid, good recruit....Best of luck to him.

Well, although he was widely expected to battle Armstrong for the starting job, he ultimately wasn't very close to even Fyfe for #2. At least, the coaches didn't seem to feel that way. I do feel for him, he spent 40% of his college career -- those important first two years of development -- in a "be a RB who throws" system, and then the bar gets raised. But still, all he needed to do was show he was another really strong option for future development here. He wasn't just behind the younger Bush and Darlington, he was way behind...and it's especially too bad because these limitations seemed mental, not physical, as you said -- "yips" may have been accurate.

Best of luck to him. So bummed another QB we thought would shine just doesn't pan out.

Moving forward I say we do what other schools do to us. So, at the QB spot I say we offer a scholarship to every offer Ohio State puts out. I'm hopeful we can snag one from them at that one should pan out since they can have a QB that is 3rd or 4th on the depth chart come in off the bench and light it up and force the current starter to the bench.

Some sarcasm for sure but dang it if it isn't about true.

Hopefully Coach Riley can recruit this area better and then we can truly develop and groom all QB's on our roster.

Oh so you thought he was a bust in April when four other QBs played in front of him. Wow how observant you are. There's no way you thought he was going to be a bust when he was first recruited.

He was a bust when he wasn't even close to catching Fyfe for #2 last year

When Riley was named coach and I knew the offense he wanted to run- Stanton wasn't a fit, so last year it was a forgone conclusion

He wasn't going to be a "bust" if the type of O we were running favored an athlete playing QB like TM or Stanton. But he couldn't even elevate on the charts for that- let along a Pro Style O.

BTW LOTS of guys were still on the Stanton bandwagon- just a couple of weeks ago right here on this forum- "he is an elite 11 guy, all he needs is some more good QB coaching- the QB whisperer can make him into something". I said it was never going to happen, people disagreed

Just curious. If you know the style of offense Mike Riley runs, why did Riley and his staff put the full court press on Stanton when recruiting him coming out of HS????

When did #1 get decided and isn't that what they're racing for? I was under the impression that every position is still open and Darlington has a legitimate shot at the starting job. If he's just another darling of the Spring Game and has no realistic chance of starting because of politics then I doubt I'll have much interest in the Huskers going forward. Heck, let's just put the local reporters on the field....I'd pay to see a few of them get smacked a couple times.

(That should get a bunch of people riled up for a while.)

I think that was Bubba Starling. Stanton hurt his knee his senior year and didn't play in any of those games.
