QUESTION: "If Danny Woodhead is so amazingly awesome, why did he go to Chadron State? Didn't he have any other major offers?"

ANSWER: Because sometimes 180 different college coaches don't put down the tape measure, clipboard, and the recruiting star charts long enough to see what is actually in front of them. Yes, conventional wisdom sometimes lacks the "wisdom" part, and it is possible for everybody can come up with the wrong answer at the same time.

By the way, congratulations to Danny Woodhead on his three touchdown effort in the NFL today. Maybe Stanton can play at that level, maybe not, but at least he's getting his chance.

Comparing Stanton to Woodhead is laughable. Woodhead was an undersized 0* from western Nebraska with no D1 offers. Stanton was a 3/4* from So Cal with multiple D1 offers.

Any D1 team with an immediate need at QB would be scouring the jucos. It's interesting that no one else offered. It's not a knock on Johnny, it's just a fact.

IMO, the knee injury scared teams away

If teams are interested can't they have physicals done? And in cases like this, check the specific injury and how well it healed? Or do teams routinely not bother with this sort of thing?

Common practice in the NFL, but I would guess the rules are different for college. I don't know if schools can "demand" a physical or bring a kid in just for a physical. I'm sure they schools do their own investigating, but have to rely quite a bit on what the family tells them. HIPAA laws and all that.

Went back to see how much talent he played with in HS. He played with 5 pac-12 lineman in his last two years

Thanks Haspula for your homework. Santa Margarita is in the Trinity league of the Pac 5 division in CA. A division is made up of leagues. And the Pac 5 is the toughest division in CA and the Trinity is the toughest league in the division. A 305 lb avg OL is normal for a Pac 5 team. They have had 390 lb OL's in the Pac 5. (A guy named Mama who plays for USC...he is now down to a svelte 350 lbs.).

Santa Margarita was a 3-7 team before Johnny Stanton, 9-3 his sophomore year, 13-2 and state champion his junior year, and 9-3 his senior year when he got injured.

They've basically been a 5-5 team since then.

He was rated #10 in the nation for dual threat quarterback when he was injured. He has just been named CA 2015 JC Offensive Player of the Year.

Barney Cotton and John Garrison are the offensive coordinator and offensive line coach for UNLV. You might remember them from Nebraska. That might have influenced JS decision to sign on to UNLV. The head coach was a high school coach name Tony Sanchez.. He just completed his first year in college (3-9) and is trying to build the team from the ground up. It's going to be fun to watch.

Johnny Stanton blames himself for his performance at Nebraska. He is a very generous, gracious, and classy guy. In my opinion, I think he was neglected for some reason. We'll see how Nebraska does next year. And it will be interesting to see how Johnny does next year at UNLV.

 
Beating a dead horse, but I REALLLLY wish he would have stayed. Easily could have been backup this year/seen playing time.

 
Still remember two years ago when Finnin and Knevel told me he was the best QB on the team by far. Just never worked out for whatever reason.

 
I wish him well at UNLV. My son mentioned he read that JS was to be the starter for them in the first game. I hope he finds the success that avoided him here.
