From Wikipedia:

The last game in 1962 was particularly tormented with poor luck and bad planning. The game had been scheduled, but only one participant had been invited--the Miami Hurricanes. With only eleven days to go before the game was to be played, the Gotham Bowl invited Nebraska, which had just finished an 8-2 season. However, before the 1962 game could be played, the Cornhuskers' team plane refused to leave the Lincoln airport until the bowl's check for expenditures cleared. In addition, the 1962 New York City newspaper strike ensured that the 1962 game would receive virtually no coverage in the media capital of the world. The game itself was a thriller, as Nebraska edged Miami, 36-34...but barely six thousand people attended. As a result of the failures, the bowl game was not renewed for 1963.
From huskers.com:

New York, N.Y., Dec. 15, 1962--Playing under Coach Bob Devaney, Nebraska won its first bowl game in three tries, upsetting Miami and George Mira, 36-34, in the second and last of New York's now-defunct Gotham Bowl. Playing in Yankee Stadium before only 6,166 fans in freezing weather, the Huskers and Hurricanes put on one of the greatest bowl shows ever, trading scores in every quarter.

Willie Ross' 1-yard plunge and Bill "Thunder" Thornton's subsequent two-point run gave the Huskers' the lead for good, 36-27, with 12:10 left. Mira, who passed for 321 yards, led a valiant comeback attempt but was thwarted by a last-minute interception by Husker guard Bob Brown.

I heard on BRWrap Up that they are going to announce a new bowl game at Yankee stadium, ACC vs. Big 12... any news on that yet?

I got a text message from ESPN earlier today and it said that it'll be the Big East against the Big XII.

Yeah, I think Kornheiser was only 70 then...apparently Fidel Castro was at the game too and was only 90 at the time.

Well...that Gotham Bowl was the first Husker game that I ever watched on TV.

Let me get a calculator out to see how old I am...

This game will pit the 4th place ACC team against the 7th place Big 12 team. It will be called the Yankee Bowl (I'm thiking it will end up being the Who Cares? Bowl) and you better wear your long johns if you ever decide to go.

:clap :dumdum :clap

Cold weather or not a bowl game in New York City would be a pretty damn good consolation prize for a 4th and 7th place team.
