Just some thoughts on the new coach and who it should or shouldnt be.
I dont know a whole lot about who it should be but i have a few opinions about who it shouldnt
1. Turner Gill. We all love him for what he has done for NU. He is doing a pretty good job at Buffalo but it is Buffalo.
a. I dont think he is ready for this job
b. Who would his staff be. We dont want his staff there to be the staff here. He has position coaches there that were film coaches here
c. No big names as coordinators are going to come work for him even if it is at NU.
Due to this i dont want him as coach. A good guy with NU ties at HC with a crappy staff spells bad bad news
2. Bo Pelini. Again we all love him and love his Defenses.
a. The same concerns with Turner i have with Bo.
b. Add to that a very good chance that he would bring Barney Cotton in as OC (he wont keep Watson unless he is forced and if he is forced he wont take the job) and Barney Cotton as OC would be disaster. If Barney was such a good coach he wouldnt be sitting at home right now, he would have a job somewhere.
I believe Bo is the better choice of the two but neither is the right choice here at NU. We need to, IMO, look more at some established coaches with good staffs who will follow such as Cincy's HC or Boise HC. Bo may be good if he is willing to let TO pick his staff, but that isnt going to happen.
