Born in Germany. Played soccer there until he was 9 yrs. old. Then parents relocated to North Carolina.

Does anyone know when the big 3 evaluate kickers? I know he's not going to be in the rivals 100 or anything but I'm guessing he'll be a 3 star guy in the top 5 or so kickers?

He mentioned doing kickoffs and FG's, and that he expected to be a backup punter.

 
Interesting. I feel bad for Adi, if he really did want to redshirt this year and try to take on the full time kicking duties next year and the coaches wouldn't allow him to.

I don't think the coaches were ever going to give Adi the option. It isn't what is best for the team, and outside of just the thrill of placekicking in college it is rather irrelevant to Adi. If his preference is to play professionally, they don't really care what you did in college. Kickers are rarely drafted and even the guys that go in the 3rd or 4th round are as likely to get cut week 1 after missing a few as anyone else. Even more than any other position, kicking at the next level is a week to week occupation.

If kicking professionally is his concern, Nebraska will get him an invite into camp. After that, he's on equal footing with every other kicker. That's the blessing and curse of the position at the next level.

If he wants to be the full timer, he's in the same predicament as every other single player position on a team.........he's gotta win the job. Redshirting to avoid competition is very rarely going to work for anyone's benefit. There's just always someone else you have to compete against.

More to the point of this thread, I'm glad to see the position given a priority in the recruiting process. Given the impact of the position on the games that really matter, it's a shame how little respect it is usually given.

I think you're accurate when it comes to the next level. A few (Crosby?) can make it via the draft, but very few. I don't really agree with the assumption about him trying to "avoid" competition however. Regardless of how Henery kicks this year, he'll still be the starter. He could miss 3-4 in a row, cost us a game and you won't see Kunalic the next week. It will be his spot through the highs and the lows. IMO this is the one position that is not a competition, not necessarily because Adi can't compete but 1) Henery is that good, and 2) Henery deserves and has earned it. Adi's desire to redshirt probably has little to do with the next level - he knows he can make a camp and prove himself. He just wants to put a few through for the Huskers first. There's nothing wrong with that.

 
Adi should be fine. Its already been mentioned that kickers are rarely drafted. I don't think that NFL scouts will let him slip through the cracks. They will be well aware of his big leg and the fact that he played behind our most decorated kicker in history. And we've had some good ones.

He'll have a chance to earn a spot in camp like almost all other kickers. I think that he already hit the lotto with a four year scholarship as a kick-off specialist. I don't mean that as a slight, I think that he is clearly worth it and hope he has a long, fruitful pro career.

 
They just put his film up on rivals front page...this kid is is a hybrid of Adi and Henery. He's a boomer like Adi, he's accurate, and he punts too like Henery. And he's originally from Europe! What more could we ask for?
