As we move into another offseason...keep an eye on Oklahoma.

Yes, the NCAA gave the Big 12 a shot in the arm by allowing them to stage a conference championship game with 10 teams, but that doesn't necessarily mean that it has satisfied everyone in that conference.


Oklahoma's President David Boren is tired of Big 12's "little brother status"

Boren's bravado is entertaining. Had he been this outspoken (among a few others) when Texas was on top of the college football world, the Big12 might still be in its earlier form and might be every bit as strong as B1G/SEC.

 
If they do this without a network channel that's equally shared, it's not going to be poaching anyone from the Big 10. Maybe grab CSU and an Ohio school and call it good? If it's just to get a championship game, the economic incentive is hard to see.

Upon reading all his comments, it's clear no Big10 school is leaving because they lose all media rights. He's basically for adding two teams to sure the numbers up to 12 and not just rush to add a championship. Makes sense, as trying to get a network and expansion all at once are not feasible, but neither is just adding a championship to just be another bandaid at 10 teams. In other words, he wants to expand ASAP, but have a plan.

When you have an AD constantly ragging on the direction and leadership of a conference, it doesn't look like an attractive scenario to teams maybe looking to join.

Because of this, I don't believe they have any options that will move the needle to make them any less of a "little brother" to the other P5 conferences.

Cincinnati, Memphis, and UConn are the closest schools to the Big Ten footprint. BYU, South Florida, and UCF have also been rumored, as well as Houston in the state of Texas.

 
Any school looking to join the Big XII is going to do their due diligence by interviewing current & past members of the conference. The Big XII is not going to get a good endorsement from schools like Nebraska, Colorado, Texas A&M, Missouri and (from the SWC) Arkansas or Houston. None of these schools had good experiences with Texas, none are going to calm any fears any prospective new Big XII member will have.

The Big XII is in desperate need of another anchor school, but you're talking a Nebraska, a Wisconsin, USC... something like that. And none of those schools are leaving their conference to join the Big XII.

What Sam McKewon and the Tulsa World article are referencing is NOT any of the Big Ten teams joining the Big 12 conference, rather the potential that Oklahoma could join the Big Ten.

David Boren, the Oklahoma President has a wish-list of things that he wants the Big 12 to act on, and if they don't than it is possible Oklahoma will start looking at other options.

They wont get rid of someone to add OK.. theyll just go to 15 and look for another team to make it 16.
