Keller Debut

Ok, I know that I am going to get a lot of flack over this; however, I truly believe, that Keller is going to be a much better QB than Z. Taylor.

After he got settled, he was very poised, made good decisions and no afraid to get out of the pocket or just stay in the pocket and take a shot when needed.

This is my opinion, but would love to hear some of your comments on this as well.

Taylor was a great QB to fill the gap and he did an incredible job. He did so much more than we could have imagined from the start. He definitely gets credit for all he did. But yes, overall I think Keller is a better QB. That doesn't diminish what Taylor did for us, though.

Edit - And yeah, Keller's debut wasn't outstanding, but he did a good job and showed he's more than capable of leading the team to good things this year.

Not outstanding, but efficient. The running game was BEAUTIFUL today though. Lucky looked studly. Castille will be an AMAZING back for us in the next couple of years.

Keller better then Taylor? Well I think he just might show more promise in one year then Taylor did the last 2.

It's a tough comparison, though. I think Keller is going to have a better team behind him this year than Taylor ever had. And then of course we only get Keller for the short time, we had Taylor for longer. Those kinds of differences make it a bit harder to compare. I like what I saw in Keller though, and I guess that's what really matters for this season.

We'll see about Keller. I didn't get to watch him (radio) so all I know is that his showing today was unspectacular, but solid.

I'm no longer sure that we'll have Marlon Lucky for two more years, by the way. I thought it was ridiculous to suggest so, but if he keeps this up...dang, I don't even remember the last time we had a RB put up a game like Lucky did today. We'll see about his durability over the course of the season and how he does in Big 12 play, but he's definitely turning heads.

And Quentin Castille is a monster. Astounding.

Dang ABC cut away to the Wake Forest/BC game before I had a chance to see Ganz play.

My expectations for Sam made me a little dissapointed, but I think our main difficulty is the playclock.

We either need 5-10 more seconds or a faster way of signaling plaYS in..Are wireless earpieces allowed yet?

I still wish there was more time left between plays..quickly turning my Fav. sport into a Basketball game.

Now if they show a replay or talk to a player's Dad on the sideline, we're liable to miss something on the field.

This offense was invented for a QB with a weaker arm, but I suspect Cally will do a better job of utilizing Sam's strengths.

Keller's targets did have a lot of drops, too. His stats would be better without all those damn drops. We can't afford that in a tough game. Also, I think the mismanagement from the sideline (assuming Callahan isn't covering, but it did look like things were way slow coming in early) really flustered Keller for the early bit of the game, cuz he'd get up there with like 5 seconds to hike the ball and they'd be all shifting and crap. That hurt him too, and it wasn't really his fault.

I didn't see the game (will review the DVD later), but it seemed that Sam did an excellent job of "managing the offense". We want him to lead NU to a maximum number of wins, NOT have Sam throw a maximum number of passes!

I remember the broadcaster said he "forced" one pass that led to an INT and TD by NV. Hope he'll learn from that. Finally, I suspect that Purify will make Keller look more proficient!

Another thing that concerns me is the difference in the amount of time it takes to call a running play or a pass.

Even the commentors were able to predict a Run after a short (time) huddle.

That did get cleaned up some in the second half (the time to call pass plays). It was blatantly obvious in the first half, by the second half they'd adjusted alright and cleaned it up.

That one was tipped, but yeah..The ball was snapped with <1 second left on the play clock which I think flustered Sam almost as much as me..He then didn't take the time to look off the receiver.

BTW..Anybody know if QB's are allowed to use shaded eye shields? so DB/LB's can't watch their eyes?
