Keller On ESPN SportsCenter

All-Conference
Was named the #3 biggest story going into the 07 season :bonez The guy talking also said Keller would have Nebraska winning the Big XII and competing for a championship

the O line will be THE question, can they protect him?

Big, big question. And with two offensive line starters biting the bullet this week I'm sure it's a question Keller himself is concerned about. It doesn't do any good to have a great QB if we don't have a line to protect him. Fortunately, our first game isn't for a half a year yet. And with all the losses to our defensive line the spring game will not really be an accurate gauge of where the offensive line stands.

Im not concerned with the O-Line at all. We switched people in and out of it all last year and were pretty successful and Huff will be back by seasons start. Also I believe our D-Line will be better this year because our secondary will be better. Offenses were dropping back and passing on us so quick in 06 that our D-Line never did anything... this year with Bowman and the rest of the secondary we will hopefully be able to guard the WRs long enough for Turner and the guys to pressuse the QB. Also with the better secondary we wont have to constantly drop a LB back to guard WRs and use one to pressure the QB and protect lanes.

Hmmm I doubt we'll be competing for a national championship with our schedule next year. We still don't have the depth at offensive line or secondary. We might get lucky and win the Big 12 title though.

there are no big questions for next year but small one's are not in any order

1. D-line- will Turner and crew be able to step up and fill in huge shoes

2. O-line- with recent rumors about Patrick and losing two starters

3. Secondary- will jucos step up and replace our horrible secondary from last year

4. injuries, injuries, injuries- Zac Lee still healing from juco all-star game could mean if Keller goes down so does our season, all three running backs have had to sit out last year due to injuries plus Lucky's hospital visit, Bowman might still be nursing, and many others

1. Turner and Suh have already shown they can get it done, and Potter has been great on Special Teams. We really just need to see who steps up at DT along with Suh.

2. What 2 starters did we lose, Austin and Mann? Those guys weren't even consistant starters because of injuries. We've got the depth at OL that we will be ok and all these guys have experience from last years playing.

3. Jones looked a lot better by the Cotton Bowl and with Bowmans return I think we've got 2 solid corners right there. Dont forget guys like West, Young, Culbert, and Thenarse that can step in at corner for us and throw Murillo and Grixby in there somewhere and I think we will be fine. Green can play safety pretty well and Asante should fill the other Safety spot, but if needed Culbert or Thenarse could move over or Wilson could step up into a starting role.

4. Zac Lee as a backup? I think Joe Ganz will be the #2 anyway and he could carry the team for awhile. RBs in a concern, but by season start Glenn and Lucky should be 100% and Mendoza will have been here all spring to pick up as much as the offense as he can and probably see the field. Finally, after the Mizzou game last year I saw Zach Bowman running through the tunnel walk area after the game to the locker room. He looked really comfortable and like he had recovered. He probably couldnt cut very well or things like that but by spring ball or for sure Nevada he will be ready to go!

Maybe I'm just to positive but things seem like they could really fall in place for use this year if we can avoid those season ending injuries in early practices/games of the year.

Very good post Huskerguy. It is nice to see positives and the reasons why. Long time till the season starts. Kids get better real quick sometimes. Now is not the time to worry about what will be in September. Only time will tell, I like the sun is shining rather than the sky is falling. Thanks for your thoughts.

AMEN!!!!!! I was talking to some friends about these posts and brought up just how much the backups played last year on both lines and my friends told me i was an idiot (even though they didnt watch all the games) Glad to see I am not going insane in thinking this. Great post huskerguy, keep 'em coming.

dear huskerguy

notice how I said small problems

i know that I shouldn't think so negative, and I know that the backups got in a lot at d-line but that is going to happen every year, the starting four are not going to stay in the whole game, this year new backups are going to come in a relieve the starters, I believe as of right now Steinkuler is set to be the other starter at dt

I still think we need a little more depth at o-line as of last years returnees just because we have had a lot of injuries and we change guys a lot but we should be pretty strong up front

our secondary will be a lot better (they couldn't get much worse) and I do think that the jucos and returnees will provide a good combo and have a lot of depth

yes Lee will be the starter, ganz is not that good, he is a smart decent qb who is perfect for the backup role

all in all i say we are going to be pretty da#^ good next year, like the guy said on sportcenter "competing for a national championship"
