However, there exist at least two thorny issues:
1. Only the schools in the powerful Big Five conferences (Pac-12, Big Ten, Big 12, SEC and ACC) would be able to afford stipends.
Which is why the Big Five is seeking autonomy, or a clean break from the fray. The NCAA seems destined to be divided into the "haves" (Big Five) and "have-nots" (everyone else). The NCAA board of directors will meet Thursday in Indianapolis to discuss stipends and other proposals that could benefit athletes, and change the landscape as we know it.
2. At some point, of course, stipends won't be enough. Athletes will want more and more and more, as big money flows all around them. And if they don't want more and more and more, savvy attorneys will convince them they should want more and more and more, and the legal battles will continue, along with the massive legal fees.
Yeah, a big money grab.
Let's face it, legal battles in college athletics -- one in particular -- could become more dramatic than the games themselves.
