Team HuskerBoard
Key matchup
In last week's 27-20 double-overtime victory against Iowa State, Taylor completed 36 of 55 passes for 431 yards. The completions and passing yardage totals were Nebraska single-game records.
That's a sign that the Cornhuskers, who struggled in their first year-plus in the West Coast offense, are moving in the right direction. The number he posted Saturday are what the Huskers had been hoping to see from Taylor, who was an NJCAA second-team all-American last year at Butler County (Kan.) College, where he threw for nearly 3,000 yards and 29 touchdowns. In the first three games this season, he completed only 43.8 percent of his passes for 133 yards per game.
Taylor, the son of a former Oklahoma Sooners defensive back, grew up in Norman, Okla., and set Norman High School passing records for career passing yardage and touchdowns. He spent his first college season at Wake Forest.
Tech ranks 19th in the nation in pass defense, giving up 170.8 yards per game. The Red Raiders didn't get their first two interceptions until last week, and one by SS Vincent Meeks helped extinguish Kansas' hopes.
FS Dwayne Slay leads the team in tackles. CB Antonio Huffman limped out of the game early in the second half last week, but CB Chris Parker replaced him and made two good plays early in the fourth quarter on passes at the goal line.
