just curious how we can have a 150 man roster and not have at least one guy who qualifies as a back up place kicker?

There are plenty of legitimate things to complain about. I think this is a weird one. Most teams don’t focus on having a good backup kicker, because injuries to the kicker are so rare. This is more of a fluke thing. 

 
this isn't the NFL where you have a 52 man roster..............pretty poor coaching when they knew that  Barrett was not gonna be available   among other poor decisions the staff made,  this one absolutely cost them the game!

They did have a back up walk on who kicked last weekend. They obviously felt like Armstrong was the better option. It's not like they can go get a kicker on free agency.

I would say it was two running plays into a stacked line and a sack in OT, that cost them.

No, but surely they have a kid on campus that can kick, or a soccer player or something. Haven’t heard any updates on pickering, but is sounded like he could be out this week too. We can’t just go the year without a kicker

 
Most teams barely have one good kicker (cough Alabama cough) let alone two.

As other teams point out most teams don't have and can't find another kicker. Armstrong was the other kid on campus.
