Kody Spano hanging up the shoulder pads

Sad news, but very much expected. It's tough when the heart is strong but the limbs won't cooperate. It's great that he's sticking around and will (hopefully) an active part of the team. There had better not be any roadblocks to him helping out on the sidelines.

any idea of who is going to get his schollie? Maybe Terrell Mitchell, the TE from Fort Scott?
I believe Mitchell already had a schollie for 2012 but I could be mistaken. I guess they could give it to him early but I would have thought they'd wait since he needs to have surgery.

Very unfortunate what happened with Kody. Best of luck to him.

I heard Marrow (new RB/FB/maybeLB? transfer) and PJ Mangieri (LS) are up for scholarships...and we might have some more opening up? Not sure where it would come from, but I guess we'll see.

That's really too bad. He seemed like he could be a pretty good QB before injuries killed his career. Good to hear that he's staying with the team and best of luck to him.

You can't say the quarterback didn't battle. But after an injury-plagued Husker career, Kody Spano has decided it best to end his days as a player.

"I am hanging up the shoulder pads," the junior said on his Twitter account Tuesday night.

An NU spokeman confirmed Spano no longer will be an active player. He plans to continue pursuit of his degree at the university, and he tweeted that he thought he would still have a role on the team the next two years signaling in plays.

You never want to see a guy have to go through injury after injury like that, especially when they're as serious as an ACL tear...let alone on the same knee twice. But you have to tip your cap to a guy like this who WANTS to stay with the program with a feeling of almost NEEDING to. Truly a terrific individual and strong person. Team first. Best of luck to the young man indeed, and hey...maybe he'll be the best sideline signal caller in the nation :)

Yes PJ was given a schollie for the next two years. It think there are sill some questions about Davies and Jackson being here but Jackson thinks he's ok. We'll see. I've heard there might be a couple people leaving too. We'll see in June when the kids get summer stuff going. TMart should be back by then too from resting his foot and working out with a QB coach in CA. It sounds like the coaches might limit his workouts so he can heal up a bit more. If we hadn't been installing a new offense in the Spring he probably would have sat out.
