Lane Kiffin

All-Conference
This should probably go under 'other sports - NFL', but Lane Kiffin has been named head coach of the Oakland Raiders. At 31 years of age, he has moved from the Offensive Coordinator of the Juggernaut that is USC to head coach of one of the most storied teams in the NFL.

Good luck....you're going to need it with that roster of 'Me 1st' players.

When Lane was up for the Minnesota Gophers job there was speculation that his dad, the great Monte Kiffen, would join his staff and then retire after a couple years. I wonder if that still holds true.

I was wondering the same thing about Monte. I could really see him going because he is considered one of the prime defensive coordinators in the league, and Lane is going to a place where it is "just win baby" or hit the road. Not many head coaches have thrived under Al Davis.

One of the Local (AZ) stations played a clip of the newsconference with Al in the big chair and Lane seated next to him looking about a foot shorter ("kiddie table" accd to the sportscaster).

They then dubbed Monty Burns' (the Simpsons) voice in for Al and some childs voice in for Laney.

Didn't Al Davis once have a pivitol role in "Weekend at Bernies"?

One of the regular So Cal reporters was on 1620 yesterday and he says that in general the USC fan base is celebrating Kiffin's departure. Kiffin for some reason had become the scapegoat for the USC offensive woes the last two seasons even though he shared those duties with Sarkisian and input from Carroll. Kiffin is also not supposed to be much of a people person and will have to rely on his coordinators for that.

Hey, he gets to be the youngest NFL head coach ever. It's not a bad start and he'll be able to bounce back down the road if it doesn't go well.

I give this two years. THis poor guy is going to be killed by all those egos in the locker room and AL Davis' stubborn refusal to let the coach have any input whatsoever on who is on the team

Monte Kiffin was just on 1620 saying at 31 he was an assistant at Nebraska and Lane was born at Lincoln General Hospital. He half joked that Lane just jumped past him on the pay scale. Hard to say if that is true since Davis is so notorious for under paying his coaches and Monte is one of the highest paid assistants.
