Assessing the talent: Absolutely outstanding linebacker. Very large human. Very strong and can run. There is certainly a reason why every major University in American wants him and the Huskers should be very grateful they got a visit out of him. That, has got to mean something.

Arguably the top player in the state plays in the North Coast Section, but is out of the immediate Bay Area. Eureka linebacker Rey Maualuga is No. 3 in the country, according to rivals.com.
The 6-foot-3, 250-pound senior led the Loggers to the NCS Redwood Empire 3A championship last season and has graded off the charts (4.72 in the 40, 33- inch vertical jump, 37 bench-press repetitions at 185 pounds). Maualuga is scheduled to visit Nebraska next week and Oklahoma two weeks after that. His nearest Bay Area regular-season appearance is at Napa on Oct. 9.

"He's probably one of the two best players I've ever coached against," said eighth-year Casa Grande coach Rick O'Brien, whose team lost 20-12 to Eureka in the NCS title game last season. "He's just so big and strong and fast, plus he has a great understanding of the game. We had a lot of schemes to block him and a few times we did. But he definitely won the battle."

He would be a hell of a guy to get. Would really help our linebackers out.

Wow, he sounds like an animal. I think that we need someone like him to sure up a linebacking crew that is losing three of their top four linebackers.

 
Yes heard he mentioned that Oregon and Nebraska are vastly different... alluding to the weather etc.. so with him being a Cali kid Im sure he's drawn more to that type of culture.

Thats another main reason why I don't think we can run the west coast offense effectively. To run the West Coast you have to get the great west coast high school players over here. I gurantee you 8 out of 10 cali kids don't want to come play and stay in this weather. Why do you think Bill is trying to get all the recruits in here he can now??? Because it's somewhat nice here. In a month none of those guys will want to come here.

 
Just because the offense is called the "West Coast Offense" doesn't mean that the players need to come from the west coast. Coaches use this offense all over the country (Minnesota, California, Wisconsin). Good players can come from anywhere.

Sure you can get them from all over the country however, there aren't many high school players from nebraska,iowa,kansas,colorado,michigan, etc that run a west coast offense. The main ones are california, florida, texas, washington, etc. IT's not easy to get those kids to come here especially when it gets cold.

The way things are going with him, I think he is going to have a new leader after every visit he has.

Hopefully after his visits he sits down and thins about all the experiences he had and chooses NU. He will be able to start early.+

Most young studs aren't going to care. The type of players were going after just want to play in the pros they don't care about national titles.

They care about national titles. Why do you think that Oklahoma got Adrian Peterson. Most kids want to win and they want to be the reason that the team wins. Nebraska might have a better chance at getting some of these kids because they want to come to a team that has tradition and they want to come in and play early and have a chance at a national championship.

 
On a good note Rey has dropped Oklahoma from contention. He is down to four.

On a bad note Rey considered his Husker visit perfect that including the tradition, stadium and football. Nu's one downfall.......no social life. or "not much to do there." NU is still on his list of four. But consider USC and Oregon his number ones and NU on the outside looking in.

Not much to do? How about do well in college and play football? I imagine that would consume most of ones time.
