I don't get it, run the ball with success so then you abandon it in the 2nd half? Except for the one drive that we did run it right down the field in like 7 plays, only to whiff the kick. By trying to be unpredictable Beck is being very predictable. Maybe Cross to switch to LB so we can have some talent there

No to Cross switching! He should've been used more last night in the 4th quarter. That's baffling to me?

It's OK to criticize the mistakes Taylor made. He did make mistakes in the game last night, he forced some things. I don't think that his "mis-read" on the safety was as much a mistake as it was something he's not been coached to do. I don't think we've faced a defense who merely attacked the mesh point in order to defend the zone read. I've seen other defenses do it to other teams (like Auburn against Oregon a few years ago), but I don't think Taylor has seen it live, and there was a play earlier in the game where the same thing happened and he got dropped for a loss by the same guy (Jones) who got the safety. It was clear at that point in the second quarter that Taylor didn't know how to handle that defense, and yet Beck calls the same play with his QB in the endzone and the game on the line. Stupid, stupid coaching.

Anyways, last night showed why Taylor isn't a Heisman candidate or a national championship QB right now, because I think he did have an opportunity to win that game, and if you're going to become a legend, those are the types of moments you win. However, Taylor wasn't the reason that we lost, and he's really not a concern going forward - I'm confident he's still going to have a very good season.

Just two-three years ago, every Husker fan would have LOVED to see the offense put up 30 points in a game like this. Hell, three or four years ago, by the time we got to 14 points, we would have said "Alright, pack it in - this one's over, because the Blackshirts will hold them under 10." What happened to Bo's QB Graveyard? What happened to the speed and talent? How could they develop Philip Dillard into an NFL draft pick in a little more than a season while their current veterans look slow and tackle so poorly? Why are there more busted assignments in Bo's 5th year than in his 2nd?

Right now, my most optimistic hope is that this season will roughly parallel the 2008 season. A strong offense carries a weak defense which gradually improves over the year to the point where we see some new talent emerging towards the end of the year and ride a wave of momentum into next season.

I swallowed the bait and drank the kool-aid late in the pre-season and especially after game 1. Now I'm like a heroine addict going through withdrawal treatments. This game literally sucked the life out of me. I'm pissed that the last few years we always either lack an offense or defense. I'm losing my faith in Bo. I really thought the defense would be serviceable at this point in the season. Where are the fundamentals? Is Bo watching everyday practices? How can they be soooooo bad?

The defense at least showed improvement in the second half and gave Martinez a chance to win it at the end of the game... and he threw an interception when it mattered most.

Now if you want to call OC Tim Beck a complete idiot for mysteriously moving away from running out of the I then you'll have a really strong argument. We ran that short toss out the I on one series like 7 times in a row, moved the ball down the field and then got into FG range, went away from it and never came back. Gawd Beck was dumb in doing that.

I couldn't figure out why, with the Huskers having the ball at their own 3 yard line why we didn't go back to running out of the I. Ridiculous.

I'm with you. That quick toss was working all day, but when we needed to move the ball, we go 3 and out two drives in a row with 5/6 plays being passes or something like that. Also, why run a slow developing run play out of a formation we hadn't run much at all this season in the shadow of our own goal posts? Line up and pound it. While I'm at it, why did we only run that quick toss? Why not hand it off up the middle once in a while? I know Marrow didn't have much success on his 2-3 runs up the middle, but that's a fullback running the ball. Put Marrow in there and have him blast a hole for Abdullah at least one time. See if it works. What the hell, nothing else was in the second half.

Also, I'm curious as to why NU waited 56 minutes to blitz. 4 minutes left in the game and finally a blitz gets called and guess what? It worked.

Frustrating game.

The quick toss worked around the right side. We started trying to run it to the left. It was getting shut down pretty fast. Why not try the right side again?
