You're right. He seems like he's playing uninspired football which is a complete turn-around from what he was 2 years ago when this kid flew all over the field making plays. It's a shame really. I had really high hopes for him.to me, when you watch the defense, they seem to emulate mckeon(dead, lifeless, uninspired) he has been a leadr on D for years now. I would certainly say he is a problem. I'm not saying that he's trying to be bad for the team, but he's not being a good leader.
Yes. In that respect you're right. You're absolutely correct in saying if people don't follow, you're not a leader. But a leader can be either good or bad. The rest of the players may do what their chosen leader says because he's the leader yet they may not necessarily agree with what he's saying or doing or like him for that matter but they do it anyway out of spite. That doesn't necessarily make him an effective leader. However, an effective leader finds a way to motivate people to do what is expected of them. An effective leader tells someone what to do, gives them the tools to do it and motivates them to want to do it. That's why I said Bowman and Octo have tried to be leaders. They've tried to motivate them to do what they feel is necessary. Yet, the rest of the players have failed to respond. Does that make Bowman and Octo an in-effective leader? Maybe so. But IMO, it just means for whatever reason the players don't feel as if they need to or have to follow them even though they probably feel deep down they should. You are not a leader if no one follows. A lack of followership? C'mon guy.
A leader influences those around them to do what needs to be done. I'm not saying that the players people have listed aren't leaders but to say they did what needed to be done but those left in their charge failed is preposterous. Leaders fail. Those under leaders do not.
My point is some of the players have TRIED to be effective leaders but still none of the players want to follow. Why is that? That to me is the root of the problem. Why do the rest of the guys seem to not care about following a guy who is trying to be a leader when there doesn't seem to be a true leader on the team outside of someone who gets to wear the captain's arm-band? Is it something Bowman or Octo or Q or Ruud or anyone else said? Done? Didn't do? Is there still a rift in the D (remember the rumors floating around last year prior to and after the Okie St game?) Bowman tried to make a statement by turning in his Blackshirt. Octo has tried to be a leader with comments he's made and with his actions on the field. Why aren't the rest of the players following suit?
Sorry....those military leadership courses apparently took hold in the back of my brain at some point or another :hmmph
