Let's Reminisce

Fun off-season discussion is.....tough. So I thought of an idea.

Let's bring up specific, single instances (preferably games), and you know, talk about them. Talk about what you remember, what you liked, didn't like, an experience you had, etc. I figured we can probably do something new every two or three days (for now I will bring up different games and then we will figure out a system later :) ) So let's get started. Don't know why, but I wanted to bring up the '06 game against A&M.

Please don't hurt me for bringing up something from the Callahan era. This is one of my favorite games that I can remember. Seemed like for two straight weeks, we would open up the game with a big lead, gashing the opposing teams defense on the ground getting huge chunks of yardage at a time, then our offense would disappear. Happened again vs. A&M. I remember a bruising run by Glenn into the right side of the endzone (and on the broadcast whoever's in charge of censoring language missed a "LET'S F***IN' GO!" right in the camera :P

Then came the drive. Petersen was so huge in this game, without him I don't think we win. I always loved whenever we ran that planned roll-out pass play on 4th & 3 (except for when we tried it on 4th and 17 in the cotton bowl :( ). You guys know the rest.

Oh yeah, I freaking love Zac Taylor. I miss watching that guy play so much. Imagine how amazing he could have been if had been in our system his entire career.

Your turn now :)

My experience also is from the callahan era (unfortunatly) and it was 2006, the game against Texas. The play that gave us the lead in the the 4th quarter.

I will never forget that moment. I liked the play call, perfect timing, caught Texas with their pants down! :hookerhorns

Taylor look out! haha I love that bit. ZT was great to watch. Good game, should have dominated them though.

i remember thinking was, how are we gonna blow this?

first we had it in the bag, they there was no way we could win...then the block kick and epic drive...ah the callahan era

One might say this and the '05 Alamo Bowl were really the only true, backs against the ropes, do or die kind of wins that Callahan pulled out against respectable opponents. Everything else was either a butt-kicking, or close but no cigar.

This also stamped Purify as the man...before this game we knew he could be good and he showed the ability, but this was the coming out party. I think the multiple attempts to get him the ball at the end and the catch over the corner sealed him as the big body guy we never really had at receiver. Don't really know any other receivers we have had at nebraska when in the redzone we could just toss the ball up with confidence they were gonna get it.

Good point. You may have to go all the way back to Johnny Mitchell to find that big-body receiver (although Mitchell was a TE).

One of, if not, my favorite play of all time. I remember having to order this game on Gameplan PPV since ABC wasn't showing it in my area and was so mad the entire game until this play to send it to overtime and keeping our national titles hopes alive! :D

Agreed 100%. I loved Purify, seemed like a level-headed, soft-spoken guy (which made his run-in's with the law very confusing to me) and added a lot to our team. If only he would have come around at a different time. I guess that's true of a lot of our players during that four year era.

He was a beast in this game. Kudos to the coaching staff for having faith in him and going to him more than once down in the red zone. I love the camera angle from the back corner of the end zone on that play, one of my favorite Nebraska highlights.
