Letter to Coaches? (Joke)

The following letter was sent Wednesday to former Nebraska football coaches:

The University of Nebraska Football Program was built by you and other coaches like you who made a lifelong commitment to coach for and support the Big Red. Because of you, Nebraska has enjoyed a tradition of excellence over the past five decades that is unprecedented and unmatched by any other team or program, including our current 2007 team.

On behalf of the University of Nebraska and the Cornhusker Athletic Department, I want you to know that we appreciate your commitment and owe you our gratitude.

Whether you were an assistant or head coach, from Nebraska or another state, you are a valuable member of this family and a key factor in our school's storied history of tradition of excellence. We want you to know you are always welcome in your home.

Please feel free to come coach with us -- anytime. Just walk in our front door and say you are a former coach and I promise you, you will be welcomed with open arms. My office is on the third floor, and as you know, my door is always open. The football coaches are on the second floor and could use your help. The training is in the north stadium complex, feel free to help coach our players. You are welcome to come see us at work, attend practice and join us for coaching of home and away games.

Beginning immediately, a limited number of sideline passes will be made available for former football coaches. You will be required to help draw up plays and offer your assisance. Additional tickets for guests will be available for purchase, if you have a friend with coaching experience that might be able to help. This welcome is for this year only, as next year the ship should be righted.

I know I speak for everyone here in the athletic department and all our fans when I say we hope to see you soon.

Best Wishes

Tom Osbourne

If this is for real (and I remain doubtful), I'd have to say the TO's cheese has slipped off his cracker. Imagine being a coach and having a bunch of former coaches in your office and interfering with your players in the training room, etc.

Nutzy.

This has been tampered with. The original stated "former players", which has been replaced by "former coaches"

the following was received by steve pederson last tuesday...

Dear Pud,
Who's laughing now, chump?

Cheer,

Frank Solich.

PS

"Gravitate toward mediocrity!" ZOMG, I'm still laughing about that one!

You guys take everything so seriously. I said this was in another realm of possibilties. Like a what if?

I was feeling a little silly earlier and this is what came out.

Wow, if you are going to post hoax letters at least spell the man's name right. That sh#t bugs me. It's Tom OSBORNE. It's TOMMIE Frazier. It's Dave RIMINGTON. I just don't understand how people that follow Nebraska so closely can't even spell these legends' names.

It wasnt spelled correctly for a reason. And it wasnt really a HOAX letter. Just trying to be funny. I guess I wont try that again.

Jokes should be labeled as such. It's OK to joke around (we really need it right about now), but there was no indication that your letter was a joke. Just be more clear, and we'll laugh with you.

I am with you on that....crazy to think people can still mess those up!!

The rumors are getting really old. I am waiting for after the Texas game when "I Bleed Red's" prophecy is fulfilled and Callahan is gone and Pelini is named head coach after the CU game.
