Line Numbering

When you talk to football coaches this is the numbering system they use for describing "3, 6 techniques". etc

Does the numbering make sense- where someone head up on the TE is a 6 tech and then the oustisde shoulder of the TE is a 9 and inside shoulder of TE is a 7 and outside on air of that is an 8?

Not really, but that is what almost everyone uses to be on the same page.

A guy named "Bear" came up with one that puts all even alignments head up. then odds on the sides with the execption of the takle being a 4i on the inside. This guy named "Bear" had a lot of success so people didn't argue with it!

 
I've noticed in our base formation we seem to have the DT that is on the strong side in the 1 technique with the DE on his side in the 4 technique. The other side would be the three and the five. Especially the case when we run an under front.
