LJS: Glenn confused by lack of carries

DJR,Regarding the whole Lucky and his 5 star rating issue, since you are in effect asking me to hold him to a lesser standard than I normally would have expected out of another 5 star recruit/player, that tells me all I need to know about your true feelings on Lucky.

The bottom line is that he is an above average to average Division I back that has shown some glimpses of excellence but has not been able to separate himself from the pack like would be expected of a 5 star player.

By suggesting that I not hold Lucky to such a high standard, I didn't expect you to support my argument so succinctly DJR, but thanks nonetheless.
Wrong.

The recruiting sites create the ratings. Once he gets to college, it is all stats and performance on the field. Why can't you judge him based upon his stats rather than what you think a 5 star player should achieve. That's my point, I think you missed it. Lucky has much to prove, just like the rest of them. I don't think it is fair to hold him to a certain standard and Glenn to another. For example, Lucky isn't performing at a 5 star level in my mind, but Glenn is performing above a 3 star level. Once they put on the uniform in college, the stars don't mean sh#t.

DJR,

We could go on and on about this whole thing. Largely the star ranking stuff is sometimes right on the money and sometimes way off. For me, it does create expectations and it's hard for me to forget in the back of my mind who the highest rated recruits are on the team.

DJR, here's my dilemma - I've had 5 different people call me on my cell phone this week asking a particular question about Mr. Lucky. They all want to know what quarter he will fumble in against Troy. Three are Glenn fans but the other two just follow Nebraska in general and have for years and really don't favor one back over the other.

You seem to know a fair amount concerning Lucky so what do I tell those that keep calling me on Lucky and wondering which quarter he will fumble in this Saturday.

Let me just ask one question, don't Lucky and Glenn play on the same team??? What do you mean several "Glenn fans," how are you a fan of one player? I am a fan of all the running backs. Inherently if you are rooting for one of the backs, you are rooting against another, and that has become so apparent through all of your posts. Even though a Lucky fumble will hurt the team, you will be jumping with glee ready to get on this board and say, "I told you so," IF he fumbles. Why would you want to set yourself up for those type of emotions? Cheer the whole team on, don't root for a NE fumble, ( :WTH ) and hope your favorite player gets some touches. That's all you can really do.

Maybe for those that wish him to fail so that your boy will look better. Lucky has fumbled 1 damn time and you are ready to throw him under the bus? Unbelieveable. I realize you guys are Cody Glenn fans, but what you are saying is making you all look bad as representatives of him. I'm sure Cody isn't sitting there hoping Marlon fumbles so that he can get more PT.

Well Put.

Actually I'm hoping that Lucky doesn't fumble so that these people will quit calling me!

I'm going to be rooting for Lucky not to fumble again so my cell phone bill won't be as high next month!

Lucky don't let us down. Don't fumble this game!

We have 4 very good backs. One will emerge. From the video ETR posted, they were saying that Wilson is getting more and more carries so I dont know if we will have to worry about Lucky right now.

DJR et al,

When the rushing output is 1.9 yards a carry for the whole game and Glenn doesn't get one carry, then you better believe I am going to post about that.

Quick way to solve it - get your boys to do better than that or give Glenn some opportunities.

You guys are such nice and hospitable Husker fans. I'm starting to like you guys.

You still don't get it. I'm a Husker fan, they ALL are my boys. I don't care which one plays. Callahan had a game plan, Glenn got squeezed out of that game. Brandon Jackson has gotten the fewest carries of all 4 this season. I don't think that is a slight to him, it's just telling of the situations he plays in. This isn't little league, coach doesn't have to make sure everyone plays. You and I are not there at practice and do not know the reasoning for Glenn not receiving carries. So for that, we can only speculate. But if Jackson or Wilson or Lucky or Glenn get squeezed out, I will wonder why the coaches didn't play them, but assume it is for good reason.

DJR, I'm just going to have to agree to disagree with you.

I'll try to take your advice on one point and put more faith in this 15-11 coaching staff. I had a positive spin on them after the 1st two games but admittedly not so much after the 3rd game and not just because Glenn didn't play.

I am hoping for a productive ground game against Troy.

Either way, I'm sure we will have plenty of stuff to talk about.

I look forward to it.

Go 'Huskers

Just to clear things up...I never downed another running back to make Cody look better. Just simply said he deserves to play.

I like to see them all play, but it just doesn't work out sometime, especially when you have four really good backs, with perhaps one of them having the potential to be one of the top three Rbs in the country -- Kenny Wilson as I talked about earlier.

I like Glenn. I think he is very good overall and he might not have bad hands. But there must be a reason why they go to Jackson and Lucky in the flat.

Then you have Wilson who he didn't get much yardage against a very good USC front seven that plugged the holes. But regardless, I was very impressed. He showed the ability to juke defenders with very good lateral movement, along with his power and 10.2 100 meter speed. That's a rare combination that Glenn just doesn't have. I can't wait to see the day when Wilson is in the game and the OL splits the middle of the defense -- he's going going the distance!

Now it's possible, and I am not saying I think this is the case, that he may not have the best ability to find holes and not have the best eyesight to see the whole field ahead of him. But if he has those abilities, and he could have them, look out!

it may just be that Wilson will turn out to be the only true decent running back we have......the logjam we have may be due to more mediocrity, than different sets of skills in each player.....Lucky, IMHO, is way overrated

I've said all week and posted a couple of different times that I think Kenny Wilson deserves the starting nod against Troy.

Make sure DJR doesn't read that - he thinks I despise all of the other backs and it might shock him to know that he hasn't been 100% correct in his judgment of me.

Kenny may well end up being the man in the backfield this season and if he proves that enough consistently, then that's what is best for the Husker team.

Until we know that, sure hate to see a back with zero carries for the whole game.
