Lott Trophy preseason list for best defesive player(Crick,David)

Eight Big Ten defenders have been named to the preseason watch list for the Lott IMPACT Trophy, awarded to the nation's top defender.
The honor recognizes players who excel both on and off the field and reflect the following values (IMPACT): Integrity, Maturity, Performance, Academics, Community and Tenacity.

Here are the Big Ten contenders:

Nebraska DT Jared Crick

Nebraska LB Lavonte David

Not a bad list overall, though I would have like to have seen more Big Ten defensive backs (Shaun Prater, Alfonzo Dennard, Jordan Mabin, Antonio Fenelus, D'Anton Lynn, Nick Sukay) earn consideration.

The way Dennard and David played all season, and they way Crick ramped his game up at the end of the season, there is no reason that one of those could not win the Lott Trophy. The way Crcik played against OU was a thing of beauty, and I'm fairly sure he will play that way all season.

I hadnt heard this. Though, i could see Crick played DE in a 3-4 scheme.

I don't think so...? The most I've read is that people were saying he had the build for it. I can't imagine doing that, unless CamStache, Ankrah and Eric Martin fail. If the three of them continue to be what I think they can be, and Williams is even as good as he was last year, we won't need Crick at DE.

Crick plays DE, when we run the "spinner" formation with Cam Meredith playing in a upright position. Then you have Baker at NT, and Williams/Ankrah at the other end spot opposite of Crick.
