LSU - Best Team Ever?

So, I've been thinking about LSU's team lately. I've been thinking that if they run the tables and win the MNC, that they could be considered one of the best teams of all time. I'm not talking top five, but somewhere up there. They've played one of the hardest schedules I've ever seen and their defense is ridiculously good.

Thoughts?

If they run the table they are, at the very least, in the discussion. They'd finish with 9 wins over ranked opponents, 5 wins over top 5 opponents (this is nuts), currently have the 2nd ranked defense in yards allowed, 1st in turnover margin, 2nd in points allowed, 5th in pass defense, 4th in rush defense.

That's what I'm sayin', Landlord. We all know that '95 Nebraska is the best team of all time, but I think this LSU team warrants a top 15 ranking all time if they win out.

If they win out, they are top 5 all-time. No question about it.

IF they run the table--quite a big "if". USC 2005 was the greatest team of all time. Until Tejas and VY beat them in the Rose Bowl. Let's revisit this thread in about seven weeks.

Not that I don't agree with where you're coming from, I think anyone with a decent football brain knew '05 USC was far from the greatest of all time. First of all they played in the Pac-10 (LSU's schedule is leaps and bounds more frightening), only beat ASU by 10, barely squeaked past Notre Dame, had another scare against Fresno and didn't have the greatest defense in the world, even before the national title game.

To be honest I thought 2004 USC was a much more formidable team - but nobody ever mentioned them?

the best team ever should not have had to rely on another team to have missed four field goals

I hear ya bro. That whole year espn was spouting off about USC being the best college football team EVER. It was sickening. Mark May, Corso and Herbstreit were creaming their jeans every week over genius Pete Carroll and his mighty Trojans. Which proves beyond a doubt that espn doesn't have anyone with a decent football brain.

If's and but's, man. Like I said, LSU won that game. Doesn't matter that Alabama missed four field goals. Plus, Alabama is one of the best teams in recent history, along with LSU.
