seeing that guy last night made me sick. he really needs to get things undercontrol with his weight. he is a good coach, I'm sure he's got a family. as the son of a former college coach, i know the large amount of hours, and the huge amount of pressure is on them. add that to the large amount of stress on his body do to his size....... I honestly don't see him making it much longer...it is sad

Not sure why I read that. Taking cheap shots at peoples size, looks or whatever shows real class.

He's definately much bigger than when he was at Oklahoma. You would think that with them giving him a big contract extension they would have provisions for him to work with a dietician and a trainer while being under constant medical supervision. I'll admit he is a heck of a coach not only from game plan adjustments but from getting his players in the right psychological frame of mind. I do hope he stays around long enough to see the end of his contract.

Did you read it??? I wasn't making fun of the guy, I'm concerned. I'm a freaking med student, I look at the guy and I see the risks. with his weight he has more stress on his heart resting then anormal person when they are in all out exercise. I hate to see a guy throw away his life just because he's overweight, and thats what he is doing.

Yeah, it's pretty crazy. Feel bad for the guy

Maybe he is a high risk for bariatric surgery? Don't have all the details. My sister wasn't that large but had the surgery and lost over 120 lbs. Like what was posted, if surgery isn't a viable alternative maybe just an exercise program, diet and counseling. ?????

This was no cheap shot, sir. Ignoring major health risks and being too embarrassed to acknowledge someones problems, or even making eye contact with them b/c you are too uncomfortable for them, is the classless and even gutless move. Sounds to me like you may have more of an issue with confrontation than anything. Does the guy know he has a problem? of course, and people on this board are not the first to point it out - we know that. Mangino deals with it everyday, and Im sure he is plenty embarrassed - getting comments & looks everyday of his life. but guess what, somtimes you get motivation from even your biggest critics & enemies. Hopefully someone somwhre can spark something in him to take action, b/c as mel pointed out he is playing Cheesburger Roulette w/his life - and its not fair at all to his family & friends.

He certainly can afford having the surgery. He is a solid coach and a pretty good dude. I would think his weight would effect his recruiting. With a man the size of Mangino, the surgery is really the only option.

On another note, I have a friend who is astudent at KU, and there has been reports that his contract actually includes stipulations that he gets his weight under control,b/c they feel it presents a bad image for the University.

Yeah, its not cool when he takes up all 52inches of the tv screen. That too me show laziness, he needs to do something before diabeties and heart attacks kick in.

I think you read into this way to much!!!! He was making a simple statement of concern because of his health and the risks he is facing.............lighten up a little bit and don't take things for face value............He is definately big and needs to get this under control..........

I would think it would be tough for a player to listen to him to run and be in shape when the coach probally can't even do a sit up.

I agree with you we had a football coach my freshman year in high school that was bigger and I used to always say under my breath.........."why don't you get your fat a$$ out here and try to do this!!!!"
