Mangino's Replacements

lol. Seriously? Gary Patterson? Chris Peterson?

:rollin Thanks for the laughs!
Why couldn't Peterson be enticed? A chance to coach in a major conference (though Hawkin's move from Boise to the Big 12 wasn't exactly a cakewalk), for a school that somewhat values athletics. Wouldn't that be a step up from grumbling every year about getting passed over for the NC game and having to worry about scheduling problems? I'm sure he'll be looking to move up soon anyways, so why not jump at this opportunity? At least KU has been somewhat relevent on the national scene the last few years, though not to the extent of Boise, but it's not as if he would have to do a complete overhaul.

Boise St > Kansas...unless we are talking about basketball

exactly. petersen is a bigtime commodity now. if he leaves, it will be because a job in the SEC, or a Florida State (yes, i know they have a coach in waiting, just using them as an example), a true football program type, comes a knockin. same with a patterson, or a Harbaugh. Kansas, with their one sunshine on a dogs a$$ year, just aint 'it.'

Now a guy like Venables, maybe. A guy like Butch Jones? For sure. I think that would be a great hire for Kansas. Thats what kansas will be lucky to get, and hope he pans out like a Petersen or Patterson. That is, if they even need to go coach hunting...

I wouldn't be too sure about that. The lure of a BCS conference, the increased pay, and the fact that if he can do it in Boise, he could do it in Kansas could be a pretty big enticement.

i can see that, but i can also see him taking a long swallow of hawkins situation, which is about the same can of worms, program wise. kansas is a mess right now, and not even an attractive mess like a notre dame. i just think if he jumps, its gonna have to be somewhere a lot better set up than a colorado or kansas.

plus, i dont want petersen anywhere inside the big 12. the guy is obviously a coaching genius. so i hope he feels the same way i do. ;)

I don't see how peterson sees KU as a great opportunity. The guy may be whining about not getting into the title games but at least at boise he's in the discussion about the BCS.

Patterson nor Peterson will be coming to Kansas.

Also keep in mind that there is talk about the Mountain West adding three teams (Boise St, Fresno St, & Tulsa) to become a BCS conference. Good luck to Kansas getting Peterson if this happens...

Patterson just signed a contract extension with TCU, plus they have alot of cash with the boosters invested in keeping that program where it is.

only tubberville of that top list could be legit, and only because he is currently out of work. No coach of a bcs program, or a top level non-AQ like TCU or Boise would even think about it. The path to a BCS game(or even NC game) at those schools is way easier than at KU.

I could see Tubberville taking that gig if offered. He did good things at Auburn, hate to say it but KU might not be a bad gig, considering the renewed alumni interests in the football program again. Also wouldn't be surprised if a big time coordinator is looking for a promotion.

I think they're delaying his firing until they have someone. It's crazy. Who's going to come to KU? Mangino had you guys respectable (although this season may have pulled some of that away)

Gill maybe....I think he may be happy at buffalo and content to settle down. We'll see. Didn't know about his daughter.

Not sure stanford to KU is a move up....probably a lateral move. More than likely it'll be a ron prince type of hire (as in a coordinator from another school) or another mangino (assistant)
I think the KU job is viewed more highly than you think.

Here is coach scoops list...

Kansas:

Our sources have confirmed that Athletic Director Lew Perkins has had talks with former Tennessee Head Coach Pillip Fulmer and there is mutual interest

oh that would be a match made in heaven. Fulmer who is known to run dirty out of control programs teaming up with Kansas who has had more NCAA violations than nearly every school in existance. I would give that pairing 3 years before their first major violation came down.

On a side note, we would be able to continue with the fat jokes on the ku look-alike thread ;)

Jayhawk, who would you like to see come in? Realistically, none of the 'big' names (Patterson, Harbaugh or Peterson) on that list are going to KU. But what is your wish list??
I don't agree on Harbaugh, he MAY come... Patterson, not so sure bout that one. My list...

1) Sumlin / Harbaugh

2) Nutt / Fulmer / Tuberville

3) Fedora / Gill

4) Holtz / Brewster / Jones

Don't think it wil lbe Patterson or Peterson

Yesterday, or maybe the day before, I thought I'd heard one of the talking heads on ESPN say Houston Nutt...

I laughed my a$$ off...

Why?

You don't think he is a good coach (I would argue he is)

You don't think he would consider it (He is on record as having done just that)

You don't think he was serious (Go read the Ole' Miss rivals site, they sure thought he was serious....)
