There are a lot of really dumb smart people out there. It's the difference between book smarts and street smarts.

 
Okay, so ESPN does a story about Te'o's dead girlfriend during the week leading up to the Heisman. Then, ESPN breaks a story shortly after that the girlfriend never existed. Then news broke that the girlfriend does exist, but it's just some random girls photos being used as the girlfriend that the girl never really knew Te'o. Turns out Te'o's girlfriend is actually a boyfriend fooling Manti into believing he was a girl. Then news breaks these 1000 hours of phone conversations were actually between two men, one pretending to be the voice of a woman, who doesn't even exist. One day later, news is breaking that it turns out the "man" on the phone, was actually a woman, but no the woman they thought existed when originally talking to Manti about his girlfriend. WTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

True, it doesn't mean they're not true.

But Te'o has admitted to lying and the last two "revelations" are entirely contradictory. So forgive us if we've finding it hard to believe much of anything.

ESPN was nothing more than tabloid entertainment long before either of those entities existed.

 
Talk about a story that is fuled by the 9 - 10 day lull between the conference championships and the Super Bowl. The kid gotpunked. Surprised Ashton Kucher isn't involved.

I tuned out the story this weekend because so many of the daily updates like "it was a male voice" turn out to be wrong two days later. The worst part is that for the rest of his life, people will casually google up articles written in the thick of things and have no idea that parts of them got debunked.
