Marrow to Kentucky

Except Marrow has been the full time TE coach for a good portion of this year, not Garrison. :)
Ok... if that was the case, what has Marrow done that has shown on the field? Just because your highly ranked, doesn't mean your going to cut it in the collegiate level. Moore left because he was a huge baby and didn't feel like he should have to fight for a position and would rather it be handed to him on a silver platter. I never said our O-line was horrible or even bad. I am just stating that Cotton has formed some guys into studs. Last years recruiting class will be even better.

Not trying to sound argumentative here, just actually wondering. But why is it that Courtney Love will probably decommit? I know Marrow was a big part of recruiting him, but he is not the LB coach. Why is marrow so important to him?
Recruiting is handled by region, not position. Carl Pelini recruied Taylor Martinez because California was Carl's region.

If you read anything Love says, he doesn't say anything about Marrow. He states that he likes the relationship he has with Els, Bo and Pap.

PS Some of those Oline recruits were VERY highly thought of recruiting wise. Tyler Moore, Klachko, Hardrick, A-Rod (biggest waste), and I know there are more.. Our o-line talent isn't as awful as you make it sound. Funny how walk-ons are starting over highly rated guys...maybe because the coaching is poor, thus the potential isn't being fulfilled...
and the Walkons are being selected as all American!

My point exactly.

Moved this thread back into Husker Football. Depending on which way the conversation turns I might move it to Other Sports in a day or two. If the topic just dies off it'll probably stay here.

If you want to read it in the future, hit the "Follow" button up top and you'll be able to find it wherever it goes.

What????

So, the coaching is so bad that "talented" recruits coming out of HS don't see their potential realized but it is good enough for a walk ons are starting in the 8th best rushing offense in the countrya and one is good enough to become an All American.

Does anyone see something odd there?

??? Don't agree? Many people here would actually agree with me in regards to Marrow being a solid recruiter.
Well, firstly, I'd say Beck is our top recruiter. Secondly, if Marrow has only a recent, temporary waiver for recruiting for Cotton's surgery, how does he suddenly become one of our top recruiters?
Beck needs to get back to recruiting balls to the walls as he is a great recruiter! Seems like since he became OC it has slowly taken a backseat. Hopefully we can find a solution for this.

This is Marrows 2nd year on the road recruiting for us. He has more connections in Ohio than we know what to do with. I was really hoping we would keep this guy on staff. I am still under the impression a full time spot will be available on the staff this offseason
yeah, this staff full of Bo's ohio buddies that everyone's always bitching about, sh#t, I just dont know how we're gonna keep those Ohio connections.

More was born a Husker, Klachko is done with football after transferring, A-Rod no clue here, Hardrick was ok. Still wonder what that guy could have done with 4-5 yrs in a D1 weightroom

Being from Ohio doesn't necessarily imbue you with Ohio high school football recruiting connections. :dunno

1 of them. So we have 1 all-american on the OL in 5 years (i'm just guessing...can't remember any others) and because it was a walk-on and not a scholarship player all of a sudden Cotton is God's gift to the Husker trenches? Guys like Moore, ARod, Qvale, Sirles, Moudy, Reeves, Klatchko, etc where supposed to be in the 2 deep right now. A chunk of those are complete busts. Will any start for us next year? I'm less than impressed with Sirles to be honest w/ you. He's a liability out there. But he's the only one with a chance I think. That's essentially 4 recruiting classes in the crapper. how do you miss 100% of the time?

Marrow has ample coaching experience. He was over qualified to be a GA and we were lucky to have him. When people including myself mention hiring his buddies it is more or less in regards to experience for the position etc. was Els the best available LB coach for us? Was Pap the best DC available for us? I will give Bo credit recently as he has started to stray away from that mentality. I feel both Kaz and Joseph were solid hires. I hope he continues this.

Not to mention it bears emphasizing again that by recent accounts Garrison was working with the walk-ons.

Overall, our offensive line talent is not impressive. It is not a strength of this team and Beck has done a pretty splendid job working around it.

First since 2001

So, I guess it's official and Marrow is gone.

I also have yet another take on this. Again going back to my experience managing sales people......

Was Marrow selling how great Vince Marrow was or how great Nebraska was? There is a big difference and both can get players to come to Nebraska. The problem is, if he was selling how great Vince Marrow was then those players are not going to be nearly as committed to the program than if he was selling Nebraska.

From the sounds of it, this could cause a problem in this class. BUT, we need recruiters that sell that playing at Nebraska is the best thing the kid could do.
