Mars Science Labratory - Curiosity

Just out of curiosity - no pun intended - I looked up Mt. Sharp's elevation. Found this image that compares it to some big mountains on earth. Nearly as tall as McKinley, taller than Rainier.

It's amazing how much these pictures look like Earth. Truly fascinating stuff.
That makes me chuckle a little bit when I read it. I was thinking the same thing when I looked at the pictures, but the smart a$$ in me says "Well duh, what else is it going to look like? Everything in this universe is made up of the same stuff and Mars is the most similar planet to Earth that we have in our near solar system, so what do you expect?"

Considering the different appearances from space, different atmospheres, different erosion rates, etc. . . . I think that it could appear quite different.
