martinez makes me nervous

The only thing that makes me nervous about Martinez is that he might get hurt. If that happens we are in some trouble

There were a couple of times when it looked like he had some pretty substantial open field ahead of him... but he kept looking for an open receiver. I keep forgetting this is just game #3 though... I would imagine his decision making is going to improve a little bit over the next -4- years.

One thing to remember, this kid has started 3 games. I'm not sure you can ask for ANYTHING more out of him. Sure, he's made some mistakes and I guarantee he will make more and some will leave you scratching your head. HOWEVER, his upside is off the freaking charts! His poise in the pocket is so far ahead of where most freshmen are, he goes through his progressions like a seasoned vet and he has shown that he can hit WR's in the numbers right as they turn their head. He made some throws on some tough 3rd down and distances yesterday that we haven't seen a QB wearing the Scarlet and Cream in a LOOONG time.

Guys, this guy is a 18-19 year old freshman, we have 3 more years after this with him. He is going to nothing but get better from this point on and he's DAMN GOOD right now.

Enjoy the ride, there will surely be ups and downs, but his ups will GREATLY outweigh the downs, he's a big play waiting to happen on every single snap!

Brion Carnes and Jamal Turner are similar athletic QB's. Carnes throws better than Martinez and Jamal Turner is more a running threat. I am glad we are in a position to have a stud at QB compared to last year. Looking back, our 1st and 2nd option at QB weren't that good compared to this QB. Taylor could've taken this team to 13 plus wins last year. We need depth at QB due to injuries but the true impact of this new stud QB is not really known at this point. I think players will flock to a top 5 program.

Next year this team goes on the road and plays some pretty impressive Big 10 schools. Another selling point to recruits. NU under Pelini will dominate the Big 10. If you watch what Michigan, PSU, Wisconsin, Iowa have done this year, NU is going to get big time exposure and a lot of wins going forward. GBR :koolaid2:

I agree with this, but would also add that I keep forgetting how young he is and he's going to make mistakes.

Every sack or near sack on him I kept saying now is the time we need you to run the ball. When he gets this all figured out he will be very dangerous in all phases.(even more so than he already is). I do also hope the coaches get him to hand the ball off a little more in the zone read. That is thing that makes me nervous, how many hits will this guy be able to take in the conference games. Overall I am very excited as is about all Husker fans to see how this all turns out!!

agree with most of what you said, except the bold. we must be watching a different taylor martinez. the martinez i've seen has made the throws, but almost all of them have been aided by good catches. i've seen a lot of receivers reaching for the ball; nothin against taylor cause i love him and he is getting the job done, but i wouldn't say he's hitting the numbers better than any husker qb in a long time. by my definition, two seasons ago (ganz) is not that "LOOONG" ago

Isn't Great that Ganz is on the sidelines though? Nothing but good things can come from this. I think T-Matr will get his mechanics worked out in his throwing game. it will just take a little time. In the mean time I am going to enjoy watching this WHOLE team this season. GBR

The bolded part brings up a good question, How will his being a freshman play in the minds of the QB's thinking of coming here next year with a very good possibility that they will have 3 years before they see the field as the GUY and other schools have a jr or sr. I know we want guys that are not afraid of competition and they will have the chance to prove they are better. Do you think this will effect any of them????
Who cares? We have a QB now, so if recruits don't want to compete and are afraid to sit behind a Freshman than they can go find a "better" situation for them. I've never understood the fascination by fans with the next guys coming in, especially given that those kids haven't proven that they can even play at the college level. If anything I think it's a good thing that those recruits would choose to go elsewhere because the last thing NU needs is more prima donna QB's who expect the starting position handed to them on a silver platter. Anyone remember Curt Dukes, Harrison Beck, or hell even Patt Witt? I say you focus on the players you have and worry about the future when it comes, because there will always be a new batch of recruits who would kill to even have a shot at being the starting QB at Nebraska.

Does anyone else get the same feeling when the pocket closes around taylor or when he starts to get wrapped up, it always feels like hes looking to throw it while going down or make something out of nothing. makes me anxious everytime i see a play collapse around him.

Although after watching him vs washington his ball control and poise has improved alot. His positives by far out weigh the negatives. I figure by the time we get to k-state with the buy week in between we will be executing to our full potential.

this kid is throwing the ball better each game.....he is the real deal!

That is exactly what I'm afraid of. I realize that he wants to be superman, but at some point you have to protect your valuable a$$(ets).

Are you guys serious? Could hurt QB recruiting? Who cares?? National titles arnt awarded to TOP RECRUITING CLASSES

We have Taylor for the next 4 years! We don't need anyone else! If they don't want to come to Nebraska to compete then they we dont want them. That simple.

I get nervious when cody green comes in for a "Meaningful series".

Double lag post sorry

I really think that in the coming years that we put the loser of the QB battle out of Martinez and Turner and make the guy into someone like Percy Harvin, a player that plays everywhere in the defensive backfield and uses his athleticism to break open big plays.
