Looking at Maryland, their running backs haven't done particularly much. RB by committee team. QB hasn't ran much either. That bodes well for us I think.

EDIT: In fact, their rushing attack is abysmal. 130th in the nation.

He's a true freshman (#11 QB recruit). Big boy at 6'5" and 230 lbs.

Doesn't seem to be a scrambler. Had a total of 11 carries for 22 yards (and only 1 sack, which would count against that). Longest run was 17 yards.

Throwing he has been very pedestrian in 2 B1G games (Wisconsin and Washington). 58% comp, 242 yards/game, 3 tds vs 1 int

I like our odds in this one just with what we're seeing with their offense.

I suspect he'll run more against us than he has so far, since that's been the way to move the ball on our defense when you don't have a great traditional running game. He was at least expected to be pretty mobile coming out of HS, here's his 247 scouting report:

Play-making quarterback that excels as a middle-third passer. Owns a promising multi-sport profile and has tested in the upper percentile: 4.65 in the 40-yard dash to go along with a 4.38 in the short shuttle at 6-foot-4, 215 pounds. Dangerous as a runner and will make things happen as a scrambler, but tries to get the job done from the pocket as he works through his progressions. Usually poised in the face of pressure and can get the ball out fast as he will shorten his release or change arm angles. Tends to serve up a tight spiral and has the velocity to attack the perimeter. Not a ton of deep shots on the highlight reel, but has the touch to connect with targets that break containment. Turned in an overall solid showing at the Elite 11 Finals and impressed the staff working the event with his desire to get better. Enters senior season with a 21-3 record and multiple championships to his name. Should be viewed as an exciting dual-threat talent that can win at the Power Four level with some seasoning. Likely to find most success in a modern spread attack that wants to move him around and utilize his legs.

So don't expect him to be Sorsby or Chiles, but is capable of scrambling and I have to imagine the Maryland coaches will encourage him to take the opportunities to do so. I think he really wants to prove he's a good passer, and frankly he's done a good job of it so far as a true freshman.

“The only difference is we’ll go out Thursday, because when you arrive there, you fly into (Baltimore/Washington International Airport) and you have to drive about an hour to Bethesda to get to the airport,” Rhule said. “We know Washington didn’t get in till about one o’clock in the morning Thursday night.

“We’re not a big Thursday operation. We like to go on Fridays and keep our routine, but this is one time, and the only time this year, that we’ll go out on Thursday, just because of the nature of being on the East Coast and traveling in those areas. We’ll take advantage of Friday as a day, like I said, talk about the brotherhood of the team, and just spend some time together and take the day to lock in and get focused for the game.”

Washington is allowing 221 pass yards per game, so it was just 2 yards under their average.

Maryland QB Malik Washington is a true freshmen, the #5 overall QB a consensus 4 star recruit. He had many offers, including Oregon, Penn State, Texas A&M and Nebraska. He is from Maryland and wanted to rebuild the football program. He is a big guy, listed at 6'5 230lbs.
