Slauson weighs in

Almost everyone on the Nebraska offensive line has lost weight this offseason, but perhaps the poster child for trimmer Huskers is senior guard Matt Slauson, who has shed at least 30 pounds.

Slauson said guys on the line are well-aware that people are expecting them to be a strength of the football team this fall, and that helped serve as motivation and push guys do what they had to do to lose weight.

About the expectations, Slauson said: "That always adds a lot of pressure to us, and also kind of makes you work a lot harder ... just because everyone puts that pressure (for us) to be the best part of this team, and we took that to heart and worked as hard as we possibly could."

These days, Slauson gets almost as excited talking about the progress of the defense as he does the guys on his side of the ball.

"I got to tell you what, the defense is coming out smacking," Slauson said Wednesday, after the Huskers went in half pads for the first time. "They have come out of the gates really fast and it surprised our offense a little bit. But now we’re back in pads and we’re taking it back to them."
