Alright, at the risk of killing brain cells i watched the replay show- with the advantage of knowing how it turns out.
a couple things about their view of '95 team that kinda got on my nerves
1- a "rushing game led by Lawrence Phillips". actually he was 3rd on the team in rushing. and about 500 yards behind #2 Ahman Green and only about 100 yards ahead of #4 Clinton Childs.
i guess is stands to reason. ESPN circa '95 ignored Team Nebraska and focused on LP, so it only fits that they still look at that team and only see a guy that hardly played that season.
2- Herb claims they didn't play anyone and no one disputed it! I guess in retrospect, thrashing 4 top 10 (actually top 9) teams = crap. yet barely beating VTech and Boston College in 2001 is absolute greatness. i don't get that but apparently to some it makes perfect sense.
I hate, hate, Loser Holtz. but i still appreciated his angered/mocking reply to herb's comments that '95 didn't have a passing game. Holtz simply stated the obvious, that they **did not have to pass the ball**. it seems so simple, yet Herb was oblivious to something that even Holtz could figure out. that's quite sad, really.
I also appreciated Herb's whining about the '71 team only being in there b/c of Husker fans voting. basically that they sucked and didn't belong anywhere near there. then we switch to the other panel, where Corso, Holtz, and Switzer all pick '71 Huskers to win the round.
It was like the middle finger being shoved in Herb's face. i loved it.
too bad he ended the show in pout mode.
And Barry's the man. really. He respects Nebraska like no other. Credited our fans as the "best", credited Osborne, loved the '95 Huskers... :thumbs
