Michigan Game Preview

UM has a very young QB, line isn't up to usual Michigan standards, a home game, HC suspended.

This is a big chance on a national stage to show the program has turned a corner by beating a big money blue blood that recruits better historically.

Well, first you name the reasons this would not be a win of true significance, as the commentators on various networks may point out, then you claim it would show the world that we've turned a corner agains a blue blood program. I guess both of those notions can be simultaneously true.. but barely. We'd need to REALLY beat Michigan, by 17 points (let's say three possessions) or more, and hold them to just 10 or 13 points or so. That would say something, but just a W would say a bit, but not as you're opining there as a huge corner turning thing on the national stage etc.

Eeking out a win is golden when we're so used to losing, but to come across as "back" or even "relevant," well, that takes more.

I'll appreciate any margin of victory over Michigan. A comfortable win would certainly raise a few eyebrows with all the love Underwood is getting this week. If he runs crazy on us I hope we can at least hit him squarely a number of times and make him a little shakey. A shakey freshman QB and a loud home crowd might be just what we need for an edge.

The Michigan came will be interesting and I think come down to 2 things:

1. How well do we contain Underwood and prevent big plays when he scrambles.

2. How well does our O-line do protecting Raiola

The fact that Nebraska is still ranked 34th should give the home team some extra juice.

The things we need to do to prevail can be listed. The biggie for me is how LONG can we do what's needed. That's been a pretty big portion of our failures; doing okay for a while, but not throughout the game. If we do that whole game thing as we've been doing... ah let's dream.

I love our chances in this one. Underwood is gonna scramble all over us, but I trust this offense to get it done more times than their offense and in the end its about who has more points on the board. This will be more of a shootout than predicted imo because both defenses don't match up well with the strengths of the opposing offenses.

Michigan is 14th in the B1G in passing offense yards but 4th in the conference in rushing yards.

This game could hinge on if our DBs can cover them one on one in man so we can commit more to stopping the run.
