Mike and Mike ESPN

All-Conference
Not Mike Golic but the other Mike was giving some mad props about the NU/OU rivalry. Called it his favorite college rivalry growing up and said that if there was one game you were going to see, it'd be that game.

But then he showed how out of touch he was in some things by implying that NU/OU was still the same type of rivalry. No matter how much Nebraska wants it to be, it isn't. Oklahoma chose their rival when they decided to not play Nebraska every year when the Big XII came into existence.

He was also lamenting about how Nebraska and Oklahoma were now going to be in different conferences. Had some bad things to say about money driving the decisions in college football, and that's pretty much it.

Well there's not much to disagree with besides the fact that its still a rivalry. Since the inception of the big 12 its gone from "the game" every year to a "hey, remember when we played those guys? that was really nice back then" game where we all lament the good old days of the big 8.

Texas has been and always will be Oklahoma's number one rival. Nebraska v. Oklahoma was a great yearly rivalry back in the old Big 8, but the gameday experience itself faded once Switzer left. After he left, T.O. generally had little problem getting past Oklahoma. Then, after Solich left, the rivalry began to fade even further. It could have been something semi-good again with Pelini and Stoops, but we will never see it now.

True. It never felt the same once Switzer left.

plus the thrashings late in the late 90's....

Funny thing about rivalries - Texas is, was, and maybe always will be Oklahoma's #1 rival, but aTm is Texas' #1 rival, by far. Of the two I think Texas would prefer to stick with A&M than OU.

It'll be weird if Texas and A&M go to the same conference and ditch Oklahoma. What will OU think when they've lost both Texas and Nebraska? That's a tough situation when you haven't gotten there by your own choice like Nebraska.
