Mike Sherman out at Texas A&M

All-Conference
I was just watching the West Virginia-South Florida game when I saw, "Breaking News' Mike Sherman fired at Texas A & M."

Wow. They're moving to the SEC and he won't be coaching them. My husband said he thinks Sherman was fired because A & M lost to Texas.

So - Gill and Sherman are gone

Mack might be gone.

Rhoades name is hot

Heard on the radio that next year Snyder might be re-retiring again

Ouch

I can't remember seeing this many coaches either fired or retiring in my life time. Can you?
Happens every few years. The last couple of years didn't have a lot of movement making this year a few more. I think the difference this year is there are more big jobs opening for various reasons, and many have been in a conference we have been in over the last two seasons, so we pay a little more attention.

For BCS schools, the reason there is so much coaching turnover this year is due mostly to conference realignment. Pac-12 landing a whopping new TV contract helps lesser schools like Wazzu, Zona, ASU to afford going after big name coaches. That's why you see so many openings in the Pac-12 this year.

With A&M moving to the SEC, it's not surprising that they fired Sherman. Afterall he went 25-25 in 4 years. That's worse than Callahan who went 27-22. Not that A&M is hard up for cash, but the SEC pays more than Big 12, so it makes sense that they'll want to pay big $$ for a new coach to lead them into their new conference.

Word is Bill Byrne is probably going to be fired or retire over this too, because he was not in favor of the move at all. Next year is going to be a really interesting experience for Aggy.

NU had a tough time transitioning to a new coach, twice in the past decade. And we had a tough time transitioning to a new conference. aTm has chosen to do both in the same year--transitioning to the SEC no less. They are totally boned. No way they win 50% next year.

Here's how Mike Sherman found out he was fired: Bill Byrne called Sherman while he was sitting in his car in a recruit's driveway, about to go in to meet with the guy to persuade him to commit to aTm. Nice. LINK
