Is there anything here to show progress?

Since the super collapse vs OSU in the Big Ten Tourney it looks like NU is 17-37 in conference play.

His teams seem to limp toward the finish line, with the exception of the 11-7 year where even then the overall record was not super impressive.

There is probably a chance of a transfer or two after this season. I could see Horne leaving but I really don't see that as a big deal.

Watson has sort of regressed and Morrow is not himself, sadly.

We know what we have in Miles, don't we? So the question is would you rather have what you know or would you rather get a new guy?

He at least got us to the NCAA tourney for the first time in 16 years, and has brought an upbeat vibe to the program until this year. Danny Nee is the only good coach Nebraska basketball has seen.

2017 season needs to get to 18+ wins

Watson - Improved leaps and bounds shooting the ball this season. Needs to get his assists up

Morrow - Doubled his points and rebounds from last year. Hopefully can stay healthy

Jordy - Has to become a 9 and 7 guy next year

Jacobson - Good bench post player

Roby - Has to gain confidence. On the verge of being a solid player

Horne - Good utility bench player
McVeigh - spotty 3P shooter

Taylor - Average bench defender

Copeland - Good wing player who can use size on smaller defenders but also has a good mid-outside game as well. I think he will surprise a lot of people and be big for us next season
Palmer - Good size and 3P shooter

If Miles goes, Boehm has to go as well, or at least be reassigned off of basketball.

Boehm has been at NU for 14 years overseeing basketball. In that time NU has a .531 overall winning percentage and a .369 conference winning percentage. Only 7 of the 14 seasons have had a winning record. And only 1 winning record in conference over the last 14 years.

This is a pretty decent write up. I would say this...

Watson: I think he has reached his ceiling.

Morrow: Sadly, I think he is where he is going to be. I fear that his injuries are really beating him up

Jordy: He will be a 9/7 guy his entire career

Jacobson: I agree with your recap

Roby: Wrong system for his skill set...he needs to be running

Horne: I see almost no positives with him at this time.

McVeigh: Streaky...I like his game

Taylor: I think he will be what he is

Copeland: The guy has the body of a 50 year old man when it comes to injuries

 
The old saying about the "Whole being greater than the sum of it's parts" seems upside down at Nebraska.

I think we have enough talented players, but for whatever reason, that doesn't translate into a great (or even good) team.

Here, our "Whole" is LESS than the sum of it's parts.

Whether that's coaching or chemistry or style........I don't pretend to know.

But it's clearly not working, and I don't see it changing by trying to make it work another year.

 
What do people see in Ed? I'm sorry, but why do people suck him off? He's a good BBall player, but he's not a good teammate nor a good player in the offense Tim likes to run.

A buddy and I got to talking about numbers... did you know how often Ed averages an assist?

Every 5 games.

No, not minutes, not possessions, not halves, games. For his career he's at an assist every 86 minutes he plays on the court.

I'd bet money he is one of the players least likely to pass the ball in the entire NCAA.

He rips the ball away from his teammates while trying to pad his rebounding stats, sometimes resulting in unnecessary TO's. He just doesn't play as a unit. Sure, he's a high energy guy who's going to come in and crash the boards for you. But our offense stagnates when he's in there because people dump it in and he won't kick it back out.

This comment is ludicrous. He is a PF - not a PG. He is only out there to get rebounds and score when open down low.

He is 3rd in points, 1st in rebounds, 1st in blocks, 1st in fg% Watson only avg 2.6 apg as a PG, that needs to change.

Yeah, this is a lot of angst against one of our hardest-working players.

For starters, to try to judge him on his assist numbers is to pretend to be totally ignorant of our offensive scheme. We don't run an offense. We just run a series of pick-and-rolls. If you're not the guy with the ball on the pick-and-roll, it's tough to get an assist. And that's before you take into consideration that Miles' offenses have ALWAYS been TERRIBLE at creating assists, going back to his time at Colorado State. We are currently #295 in the country in assists, which might be the first year since Miles has been here that we're actually in the Top 300. So trying to judge our PF/C on his assist numbers is like saying Tom Brady is a terrible QB because of his paltry rushing numbers.

Yes, I'm a Morrow fan. That doesn't mean that I think he's an All-American. He's a very limited offensive player. So is Jacobson. So is Jordy, though he at least has some potential. Yet another reason that the "most talent ever" argument is laughable. But as to Morrow, he's a high-energy, highly athletic player. He goes all out and is a beast on the boards. He's currently #8 in the B1G in rebounding, t-14 in FG%, t-12 in blocks per game and leading the conference in offensive rebounds per game. That's not a perfect player but that's bringing quite a bit to the table.

Tim Miles' offense, players at PF:

Roby averages an assist every 20 minutes

Jacobsen averages an assist every 22 minutes

David Rivers averaged an assist every 35 minutes

Leslee Smith averaged an assist every 44 minutes

Jordy ( ehhh I threw him on here) averages an assist every 46 minutes

Jake Hammond averaged an assist every 52 minutes

Ed Morrow, averages an assist every 86 minutes

Why does every other player in this offensive scheme seem to not have had this problem? Same position. Jake Hammond was nearly incompetent. Jordy, the CENTER, whose job is "get rebounds and score when open down low" is twice as good as Ed is at getting his teammates a chance at scoring?

It's a team game, that's all I'm saying.

And please don't compare basketball to football, and then please don't compare the GOAT QB to a pretty average player.

Ed Morrow isn't asked to distribute the ball. He's asked to rebound, protect the rim, and score in the paint.

Why are you insisting on picking one stat instead of looking at the entire picture?

And I'm not comparing the players. I'm comparing picking one state to decide whether a player is good or not.
