Minnesota: What Did We Learn?

you wanna just come out and say “I am content with our o line play”. Nearly every week you post an obscure ranking or metric from a different source making the case the o line is fine

Can you just make it easier for simple minded folks like me and explicitly say “I don’t have an issue with our line and satisfied with the level of play”?
I don't view that as what he's doing. Truth is, the majority of Husker fans look at 9 sacks and immediately proclaim that our O Line sucks. Fact is, it's been shown since the game that some of those sacks were not on the O line. Example, the first sack of the game on the second play, Rhule stated that the mistake was by Hunter because he was supposed to run a route on an RPO instead of blocking.

Nobody is saying our O line is amazing. But, there are other factors in play that make certain situations look like the O line screwed up many times.

Naw that’s exactly what he’s doing when the post opens up with a “bUt ouR oFFenSiVe LinE iS tRaSH...”. Which is why I asked to just put it in simpler terms for simple people like me. Instead of random stats from a million different sources that fit whatever narrative, would be great just to see a “I have no issue with the line” statement.

I fully understand other position groups play a role in sack totals. That said, sometimes I question what games some not to be named posters watch on this board. Defend mediocrity real time and then come back days later with random stats- random stats that don’t excuse why we cannot run the ball in the red zone much less the rest of the field, have yet to register a game this year against a similar opponent where we “grind them down in the 4th with the run game”, or simply put why we can’t have a clean pocket for an extended period of time.

But I digress. Let’s stick with the lone staff holder from the frosty era because that unit play is fine according to 123countwithme.com

There can be middle ground. Of course there is room for improvement so someone can be less than "fine" with the position group while still acknowledging their successes.

The reality is we are a team that is still developing... and don't forget, we are the youngest team in the B1G. There will be mistakes. No, that doesn't mean I am content, it just means I am level headed enough to recognize that there will be ups and downs.

The team is young, yes. The line however, is not.

I’m waiting for the successes and ups for the o line. When that happens I’ll give them proper praise

That's fair I guess but you should also consider what positions with youth impact the perception of the Oline... like rookie receivers running the wrong route, causing the QB to hold the ball on a play where it was supposed to come out faster. Or when a running back blows his protection assignment causing a sack that had nothing to do with them.

Fully agree here! Wrong routes and RB not picking up the block he owns def have room for improvement. The troubling part is the wr room aren’t rookies- key, hunter and Barney shouldn’t be making rookie mistakes

I walked into the season thinking o line would be a strength for a change. Stats may say they’re ok but eye test and what I see says we still can’t get a consistent push from the line in the run game and way too many blown blocking assignments from the line to put that on other position groups to shoulder

Those are good points and those issues need rectified. Players need to know their assignments and QB’s need to throw the ball away/scramble sooner. However, even if half the sacks are other players faults, that still leaves 4 for the Minnesota game which is way too many against an opponent like Minny.

Dude you are not kidding about the packed bars. I can totally remember having to get to a sports bar a good 3-4 hours before the game just to get a big table. Not anymore!
I had forgotten about those days, wow lol. 20-30 min drive to the watch site, no parking available, standing room only, no place to sit, no service unless you went to the bar and waited forever, and it's still one hour before the game starts lol Dang those were long ACE days just to watch a game (shrugs)
